I am a new user to GBPVR. I have used it to watch HD on my computer and I liked it so much I picked up a Hauppauge HVR 2250 to watch live tv. I have it hooked up to my Comcast Cable directly.I downloaded an EPG that seems to contain the entire list of Comcast channels if I were to have a cable box hooked up. When I hit the "Map Digital CHannels to EPG" it finds over 100 channels, a lot of them unknowns.

Do I have to go through the entire list of found channels and try to map them against the EPG? Is there any way I can just do a "blind scan" and save all of those channels, and delete the garbage ones as necessary? I can live without an EPG. Going through the entire list and trying to match the channels up seems like an impossible task. I have read the Wiki and FAQ but am still coming up short. I tried using Tuning Assistant, but it too finds a ton of channels, and I have to click Ok after every channel found. When I use the WinTV app that came with the card, it scans all the channels, and lets me flip through them without an issue. That is what I would like to be able to do with GBPVR...

Yes, you must go through the entire list of found channels and map them against the EPG. You must also disable (uncheck) any EPG channels for which you have no physical channel to map. You may be able to live without an EPG, but GB-PVR can't.

You may find Silicon Dust's channel database to be of use: http://www.silicondust.com/hdhomerun/channels_us - based on your zipcode, it will tell you what cable channels you should be able to receive, and what physical channels they'll be on.

I too have found that the silicondust list makes things easier. I save more time by editing the QAM list found in BDA ->ATSC folder to only the main physical channels that I know I want. This keeps the scan much smaller and faster.

Also, I don't know what EPG you use, but you might want to set up a limited EPG for only the few clear QAM channels that you get. I know you can do that with most EPG setups. Then you can just preview each channel in the preview window to make sure you are getting what you expect and then map it on the mapping window.

I know this sounds like a lot of work, but once you get your head around it, it is pretty quick and easy. Let us know if you need more information and we can help.

Unencrypted channels should also be marked with an asterix to make finding them easier.

Thanks guys. I will give it another shot... As far as the EPG goes, I am using XMLTV and mc2xml. It comes up with a lot of channels, but the amount I can actually receive in clear QAM is a lot less. I will try the suggestions mentioned here.
