Martin, I tested your last night version on component on 480i/p and 576i/p resolutions. When using the zoom parameter I get in all 4 resolutions a black screen (see attached log).
Without the zoom parameter all 4 resolutions are now working (with correct resolutions) but in the interlaced resolutions in full screen (for me: incorrect aspect ratio) and the non-interlaced in crop mode.

Will repeat the same test for HDMI.

Congratulatons Martin: HDMI works on both pal en ntsc with the --edtv parameter, so 480p and 576p . Also the zoom parameter works. Have only tested crop and full but both work as intended.

Martin, the results for your last night version:
480i and 576i - works but crop changes after a couple of seconds (10?) to full. Full parameter works ok.
480p and 576p - works with both zoom parameters (crop and full) correctly.
I did not test HDMI because I asume that you did not make any changes to that part. If required I will test that again.

So Martin, one last step to have this finished and have a mvpmcx2 which can play all resolutions from 480i upward on component and from 480p upward on HDMI and with functioning zoom parameters. This all independent from the native resolution on the PCH!
Excellent work so far Big Grin

Certainly we are making progress but I cannot duplicate the lost crop after 10 seconds (I tried for a minute on several files) @576i. If the aspect ratio flag in the mpeg file changes the results might not be perfect.

Could you make available a one minute sample of a file that duplicates this and I will try it?

I used for all tests the same file. Will send you a sample later today.

Edit:
Sorry Martin but it seemed that I was testing two different versions of mvpmcx2 yesterday. Got it mixed up somehow :o

Have repeated the test with all 12 resolution/zoom/output combinations with your 25/9 mvpmcx2 version both on component AND HDMI and they are all properly working Big GrinBig Grin

For the 480p and 576p resolutions it is mandatory to remove the HDMI cable when using component. For the two other resolutions (480i and 576i) it does not matter because these are not supported on HDMI.
The crop and full zoom parameters work in al those 12 combinations correct. I asume that the 3rd zoom parameter will therefore also work.

I cannot guarantee that it is now 100% tested but I believe you have reached a new milestone in the development of mvpmcx2. I personaly think you could (after some further testing maybe?) release this version very soon.

Have a nice weekend without debugging!

Thanks, Jos

Great news, I'm not sure many people will use it (I don't see the difference myself), but where SD is still common it could be useful.

Out of curiosity which option do you think looks best on your monitor?

I am not sure yet because since today I have now 3 options: 576i(Pal) and 576p on component and 576p on HDMI.
I just bought 2 Hauppauge HVR-2200 double tunercards which are supposed to give a better picture on analog SD. I am going to rebuild my server and put in the new cards. As soon as they are installed I think I am in a better position to give you a more definitiv answer.
For the time being I watch 576i and p on component because that gives me more control with my tv settings on noise reduction, smoothing etc.
Plasma is the best for watching SD. I have take a MediaMVP and my laptop to a shop and compared the picture quality on several LCD's and plasma's. Plasma is the clear winner!

Thanks for the info. We still have a couple of years of SD here in Canada, and I'm trying to convince my wife (who will end up watching mostly SD anyway) to go Plasma (or LED if I am lucky).

Most of my observations on LCD are also true on LED. I have already seen several of them in comparison to plasma but on SD material they are not as good as plasma.
This has nothing to do as it seems with colors or so but the fact that plasma in some ways operate as the old CRT's while at the same time capable of operating at 1080p Smile Signal processing is completely different. Plasma remains therefore my favorite. I had one large plasma (Pioneer) and a 32" LCD. At the moment that a 32" plasma became available (LG32PG6000) I swapped it immediately Big Grin
My whole family is now using plasma after they have seen the difference with LCD or LED.
There are a lot of threads on several fora which go in more detail.

Happy hunting Wink

Jos

PS: I made an error in my previous posting! I am watching through component, not composite!

Martin: just wanted to let you know that your latest version is still working without problems. We like it very much and stopped using the MediaMVP in the living room in favour of the PCH.
Picture quality is good and no problems with zoom and/or aspect ratio as we had on the MediaMVP.
Again many thanks!

Good thanks for the update, the "m" version that this is in will be released in the next few days so others can try it.
