With the Comcast conversion the MVP is pretty much useless as Sub has noted in various posts that I have read. At the moment a PCH is not in the budget. Can anyone suggest alternatives?
I was thinking of using the GB-PVR machine and outputting the recordings from the video card to the large screen TV. Would that work? I can justify building a PC as I can also use it as a digital music jukebox. Another thought was I have an older PIII 1.0 GHz machine with 512mb of ram that I can set up as a GB-PVR client off of the main GB-PVR machine. In doing that could I then route the recordings out of the video card to the large screen TV.

I am pretty much a newbie with all of this ... so any help is most appreciated.
Thanks in advance!

I'm not sure why Comcast switch over would make your MVP's useless. I had Comcast up until a week ago when I switched to Verizon. Granted MVP's won't be doing any HD, but other than that they do a very nice job here.

It is useless in that "now" the recordings are "DVR-MS". The MVP won't play those recordings. Sure it plays everything recorded previously but not the recordings being made after the conversion. Maybe I am missing something. But from what I read of Sub's posts the MVP will not work with DVR-MS recordings.
I am trying various Cyberlink and ATI Mux's to transcode the recordings after the fact. So far with the ATI Mux I can convert the DVR-MS file to mpg and send it to the MVP but I only get video and no audio. So unless I can get a recording made on the GB-PVR machine to the MVP via the network it is useless. It was great while it lasted Smile

Nightwalker...
Question for you. I am considering FIOS as I am retired from VZ and would rather keep the money in the "family" . Do you need a STB for the GB-PVR machine? Or are you able to feed the QAM signal directly into your video capture card, i.e. Hauppauge HVR-1600?

Also a former VZ, well not so much VZ but Bell Atlantic. Smile anyway, I like FIOS very much but you do need a STB, they don't have enough clear Qam channels to worry about. Comcast did have more channels in the clear but they were cutting the amount monthly and as I understand it were going to take it right down to the required local channels. If that's all I wanted I'd just put up an antenna and get it OTA and not worry about a TV provider at all. The fact that they were heading towards making me use a STB, after I'd been told by them that I wouldn't need to for Basic and Standard that a TV with a digital tuner would recieve those channels. They lied and that's why I dropped them, even though I need a STB with Verizon anyway. I just hate being lied to.

TimCoe, I assume you are now recording QAM. You will need to transcode the shows before sending to the MVP. Try switching to "TS Mux" rather than DVR-MS in Config. You should get better transcodes.

Thanks Guys for your replies.

Yes, I am recording QAM. I tried the TS mux and have processing set to ASAP >> TS recordings to mpeg-2 on the processing tab in config. However it didn't convert to mpeg and was unplayable on GBPVR via recordings even on the PC. Tried Full TS mux which converted to mpeg and played back OK on GB-PVR machine. However there was no audio when played via the MVP.
Am I doing something wrong?

Nightwalker... what is the chance of meeting up online with a fomrer VZ or BA person on the forum who lives about an hour away? I have questions about GB-PVR and FIOS. I will send you a private message if it's OK with you.

Feel free to contact me anytime at all. It was the model 234 coin box that caught my attention, I used to install those things, longer ago than I'd like to admit. Smile
