Been working on this all day searching the forums for different ways to get my Hauppauge 1600 to work with Comcast.

A few post I have read have something about getting the IR blaster to work with the Comcast DTA, but I have had no luck with this so far.

Other post have said to use the GB-PVR to map the QAM channels, but when I run the "Map digital channels" it does not find any. Even used the ATSC/QAM TV Configuration with GBPVR version 1.4.7 setup guide.

Could anyone please point me in the right direction before I pull the last hair out of my head?

I'm using 1.4.7 on XP.

Thank you in advance!

If you've gotten to the point of Comcast sending you a DTA you won't be having many QAM channels in the clear to worry about, either now or real soon.

I didn't have much luck with the Hauppauge blaster and the DTA. I did finally use a USB-UIRT and that worked great.

How do you get USB-UIRT to work? When I select "Channel Changer:USB-UIRT Plugin" and Device Profile: I dont see anything listed for comcast or DTA.

you teach the uirt the codes for the DTA. I haven't found anything yet the USB-UIRT wouldn't learn. Smile

I think this is the one I was using when I still had comcast and the DTA.

This is not true.
Comcast sent its DTAs and STB to me back in April (2009).
My HDTV (digital tuner) and my HPV 1950 (hauppage) received all digital channels just fine until December (2009).
That is 9 months of DTAs (in my case, the Pace DC50x) working side by side with my TV capture card.

Now in December 2009, Comcast has messed with its frequencies in someway so that no ones digital tv NOR qam/atsc capture cards can find the good cable channels anymore (home shopping & municipal channels are still available).

If the DTAs can still see the channels, they are NOT encrypted (unless I got hold of a bad description for the DTAs, they are NOT capable of viewing encrypting channels. You need the STB for that. The little DTAs are only capable of RE-MAPPING unencrypted channels, and Comcast can program them remotely).

Maybe the Pace DTAs can read frequencies that are out of the range of normal digital TV tuners & qam/atsc capture cards. I'm too much of a goober to know if that is possible. But for now, I still have hope that there is a way to still get my HPV 1950 working without having to resort to a DTA + IR Blaster (which it seems will require me shelling out 50 bucks for a UIRT because the Pace DTA uses the XM protocol which the HPV blaster can't duplicate....?)

Some areas take longer to get to than others but comcast's currently stated intention is to only broadcast in clear QAM what the government requires it to broadcast, the standard local channels. I can tell you that here in my little portion of Pennsylvania I'm down to about 8 channels plus some music and shopping channels, that my digital tuners can get. I've dumped the DTA and have gone to STB's with Verizon, I simply couldn't stand comcast screwing with my channels any more. One month they would play with the channels and they would be moved all over and I would have to re-scan. Checking each time they did this, I noticed a couple of channels that were no longer available until it got to the point that there were nothing but local channels available.

Not that any of this really matters much, there really isn't much on these days worth watching. At any rate I wish you luck and hope they get to your area last for your sake.
