if you have got ad-snipping working automatically, could you share how you did that please (I have been trying and failing to get videoredo's QuickStream Fix working using the supplied vbs script but it have "" marks around the command line.

When you say "smoother transition" are you saying there's some sort of fade transition in video and sound?

Pretty much.

I have seen transitition kind of comb interleved which may have been designed to make the transition smooth it look smooth but also has the effect of breaking black frame detection (at least) and possibly other aspects of comskip detection.

We also don;t have logos popping in and out on out shows so that screws up logo detection.

Despite this, comskip generally works pretty good and I often use to to skip during playback by pressing play whilst in an ad section. Personally I could never trust my results to reliably delete ads from a show.

It's surprising that comskip works as well as it does for you, without black frame and logo detection. Do you rely mostly on between-ads silence detection? Or, is there some aspect ratio change that helps, or what?

Disclaimer: I am not claiming to speak with authority on the subject of UK comskip tuning, far from it in fact.

We do get black frames and silence on some shows and there are times when comskip detection is very good indeed. The simpsons on Channel4 tend to scan well IIRC. I have also seen aspect ratio changes in the past on channels showing "old" 4:3 programme content and and 16:9 ads.

tbh comskip is not something I have broken a sweat about as I never thought that it would work well enough to auto-cut recordings and for playback, there is the FF button.

Remember, in the UK we have 4 x BBC channels of good tv that have no ads at all and the commercial channels are restricted to no more than 9mins/hour. A movies cannot have more than one ad every 30mins.
