it will change resolution etc
and load the correct resolution on start up
or you can define custom resolutions/refresh rates
have a look

"power strip" is a program to run when you cant get the resolution you want helps with stutter etc
or in your case when you have both pal (50hz) and ntsc(60hz) programs

yea, that's the 'native resolution' of the display...so always looks best when that signal is used..
i was suggesting just re-detecting the monitor, as i think that's the part disappearing, and might have different results than restarting video driver..
like stick a batch file in startup to change it to how you want it, and also a desktop shortcut with hotkey to change to it if it ever changes by itself, without having to be able to see anything..

i have to compile the util:
attached...to use,
reschange.exe monitor#, width, height, color, refresh
use -1 to keep current setting, like: reschange 2,1920,1080,-1,60
Hardware: HDHR Prime, HDPVR 1212, Raspberry pi2, VFD display w/LCDSmartie

Oh, I see. So, I am reading that this is a program that replaces the role of Catalyst Control Centre? I assume it is freeware? One of the things I like about using CCC is the LCD Overdrive feature, which provides a back-end refresh of up to 200Hz. Will Powerstrip replace this?

Thanks for the advice.

Thanks again. I will try this next.

Are you suggesting DEVCON as the means of redetecting the monitor? If so, I might need to learn more about its capabilities.

yea, it is a command line version of device manager..can do pretty much anything the gui can..
i can't seem to find it's help file anywhere tho..
aha, "devcon help" spits it out...Smile

maybe do a remove of monitor then a rescan should find it...

i have another util that can add a specific device class, if that one doesn't work for you..
[like rescan just for new monitors..]

powerstrip may be able to do what you need too...
have you tried using 'force' a resolution in CCC?

I'm pretty sure I have 'force' switched on, but I will check.

You guys have given me a lot of ideas to work with. I really appreciate it. Do me one more favour, and check back in about a week; by then, my work schedule should have slowed down, and I will have had a chance to try some of this and report the results.

Hi, everyone. I have now had a chance to try most of these suggestions, but it isn't looking good. Switching to 1080p still causes a blank screen, and a blue-screen error every 5 to 6 times. If I could just get the machine to stop changing resolution on a restart, I could just leave it in 1080p. DOES ANYONE KNOW HOW TO CUSTOMISE THIS? Once it is there, everything is fine until I restart. (This would mean that I could no longer optimise for NTSC, but at this stage I would just live with it).

The resolution changer has exactly the same effect as every other resolution changer, including CCC. I can certainly see why it would be useful for multiple monitors, though.

Removing and rescanning for devices seems to have no effect. If the monitor has "blanked," then it just stays "blank" throughout this process.

I honestly can't imagine what else to try. Obviously, thoughts of "new video card" have run through my head repeatedly, but I'm not really game for such a drastic measure until I know that this new television isn't to blame.

I also discovered something interesting in doing this: despite having a TV sold in Australia, the "LCD Overdrive" test pattern is very smooth at 60Hz (NTSC) and very jerky at 50Hz (the local PAL standard). I am wondering if, like stustunz, my TV is not handling 50Hz properly, and if this could explain the screen-blanking issue. I will also investigate deinterlacing, as someone in another thread suggested.
