can a digital tv tuner recieve analog signal?

Since digital is higher grade level, i assume it can? Specifically, this is the model i am wondering about.

That device won't work for analog as it does not have a hardware analog enocder.

Most digital cards won't do analog - unless the specifically say, and they also have to say they have a hardware encoder chip to be usable in gbpvr.

if you don't need digital, just go for a hauppauge PVR150, but if you do, what type of digital ? (QAM DVB-T ATSC?)

The specifications for that card says "Software MPEG2 Encoder" so it's not usable with GBPVR for the analog side.

hi, I already have the 650 card and i got it to work with gbpvr (at least the live tv) My signal is Shaw cable (analog) and i was thinking to get another 750 for my laptop since it is newer and the price is only $15 more then my 650.

Since you said there is no hardware encoding for mpeg for analog, it wont work for gbpvr, but will i be able to watch live analog TV with their own software? or window media center?

I don't see why it wouldn't work with their software. Not sure about Media Center, I haven't set up a tuner in Media Center in years.

Most manufactures release products these days that are capable of both analog and digital. There are certainly still analog-only devices, and digital-only devices though.

Keep in mind, if you want to analog in GB-PVR, then you need a device that has a hardware MPEG2 encoder (like HVR-1950 for external USB, or numerous internal Hauppauge PCI cards).
