Hi all,

I am having what seem to be unresolvable ongoing problems as seen here: http://forums.nextpvr.com/showthread.php?t=45288

Now, I have decided to do a complete removal of GBPVR and all device drivers so to try an older version of GBPVR (if they are still available)... but would like to know if all the new UK freeview digital transmittrer muxes will be picked up with old GBPVR versions or have they made the previous GBPVR versions obsolete?

Thanks in advance for any help or ideas.
regards.

You should be able to pick the channels in older versions, but there have been heaps of improvements and bug fixes to digital support in recent releases, so you'll effectively going backwards in this respect.

Thanks Sub,
Yeah, I understand all that but I really want this problem solved as I can honestly say GBPVR is one of the best programs I have ever known and I think it is just wonderful. The fact it is letting me down each time I use it is a constant annoyance to me when everything else in its program works so well and is just so well written.

I have set recordings many many times only to go back to play them and find they are only 9mb in size because of the problem I am experiencing.

If I can get around that problem somehow then I really want to - even if that means reverting back to an older version.

Thanks again for the reply Sub, it is always good to hear from you.
regards.

I'm pretty confident you'll find this exact same problems in previous releases. It really sounds like your device just gives up delivering data for some reason. Its definitely funny thats going on your machine, otherwise we'd have seen others with the same problem.

Yeah, thats the thing I dont understand. Others have had similar problems but not the same as mine (I have read alot of posts).

As I said before, I tend to agree that it is my machine or my hardware/drivers, its just so wierd that it only happens on the first use of GBPVR and not if I change channel (etc).

I have been using your amazing GBPVR for a while now... I would say for over 12 months and cant recall this happening before, it does seem to tie in with the latest release for me.

anyway, I really want to do everything I can to resolve this problem as it is so annoying and therefore feel I have to try old GBPVR versions just to be sure.

I am not a programing wiz that can make changes or know exactly were to look in .ini or .xml files to change things that might help, but I am still someone who when faced with a fairly rare problem thinks that there must be a way to resolve it. I am curious now more than ever why this is happening and the fact that it has everyone else confused makes me want to find the solution even more. ;-)

Cheers Sub.

I have one of these ...

http://www.maplin.co.uk/Module.aspx?moduleno=222858

It's a rebadged Twinhan unit. Channel changes are a tiny bit slower than Hauppauge and it's a tiny bit more fussy about reception than Hauppauge.

But, it's dual tuner and £30.

It's built on the AF9015 chip which is used in devices from several makers. You may be able to find something even cheaper if you Google about a bit.

Thanks for that advice Graham, much appreciated.
Also, gEd, good spotting - thanks for letting me know.

To be honest tho I am going to stick with what I have for now for 2 reasons:-
1) I have no money whatsoever.
2) I took a chance on one of those cheapo USB Dongles after owning various AverMedia cards. The USB dongle was £4.99 on Ebay including postage and I really expected the thing to be DOA or be really really buggy. However... it has worked very well indeed and for the price I paid has been exceptional.
Yeah, fair enough I am having a problem at the moment but as I cant pin it down to the device itself I am not going to change it yet.
The £4.99 dongle looked identical to one that was on sale in Asda at the time for £29.99. It registers as an E3C ZAP (I think).
Anyway, when I get some dosh I will consider getting a decent TV card but for now cant justify dumping the cheapo USB for this problem (even though the problem is severely frustrating).

Anyway, will still go ahead with a flush of drivers (etc) at some point and will reinstall GBPVR but that will have to wait until next week as I am busy setting up new s/dpif through my Yamaha amp. :-)

Cheers folks!
