I am trying to install an AVerMedia H797W* AverTV Combo card. I seem to be moving forward but am stuck again.

1st GBPVR didnt have the card in the list of known cards. I added the card using Graphedit and updated the bda.ini file.
That helped but I could only get net radio stations.
I was still not able to map any tv stations and I would get the unable to start the BDA device until I did the next step.

2nd After reading some post I changed the bda.ini file to;

[AVerMedia newtest2]
TUNING_TYPE=DVB-C
RECEIVER_ONLY_MODE=1
FILTER_RECEIVER=AVerMedia Cx23888 BDA Tuner/Demod
PIN_RECEIVER_IN=Antenna In Pin
PIN_RECEIVER_OUT=MPEG2 Transport

This seemed to help because I was able to at least scan in the Digital Channel Mapping but after the scan I
get the No channels found. Please check your signal and configuration settings.

3rd I then found the post on XMLTV Plug in that is needed for USA. I set up that file and was then able to see the TV Guide (btw nice
looking interface) but was not able to view Live TV. Now, sometimes I can see the TV Guide and then its gone.

What am I doing wrong?

How do I get the card to be seen?
How do I keep the channels enabled in EPG?
Log file attached

*AVerMedia H797W is shown as Cx23888 in Graphedit filter.

Windows XP Pro x64, ver2003, SP2, Intel Core2 Duo cpu,
3.00ghz, 4gb ram, Asus P5Q motherboard.

When I select the Digital Source Config- and then check "only show devices detected in this machine" these are my 2 options;

[AVerMedia newtest2]
TUNING_TYPE=DVB-C
RECEIVER_ONLY_MODE=1
FILTER_RECEIVER=AVerMedia Cx23888 BDA Tuner/Demod
PIN_RECEIVER_IN=Antenna In Pin
PIN_RECEIVER_OUT=MPEG2 Transport

[AVerMedia h797W]
TUNING_TYPE=DVB-C
FILTER_TUNER=AVerMedia Cx23888 BDA Tuner/Demod
FILTER_CAPTURE=AVerMedia Cx23888 AVStream TS Capture
PIN_TUNER_IN=Input0
PIN_TUNER_OUT=MPEG2 Transport
PIN_CAPTURE_IN=MPEG2 Transport
PIN_CAPTURE_OUT=MPEG2 Transport

Are you trying to get over the air ATSC, or digital cable (QAM)?

Try this for ATSC:

[AVerMedia h797W ATSC]
TUNING_TYPE=ATSC
FILTER_TUNER=AVerMedia Cx23888 BDA Tuner/Demod
FILTER_CAPTURE=AVerMedia Cx23888 AVStream TS Capture
PIN_TUNER_IN=Input0
PIN_TUNER_OUT=MPEG2 Transport
PIN_CAPTURE_IN=MPEG2 Transport
PIN_CAPTURE_OUT=MPEG2 Transport

Now you got me thinking...

I thought it was QAM, correct me if im wrong. There are three settings when I run the mc2xml,

City, WOW Chicago Suburbs (CAB)
City, WOW Chicago Suburbs (Cable-ready TV)(CAB)
City, WOW Chicago Suburbs (Digital)(CAB)

I have made an XML file for each one, saved in diiferent folders and then tried to configure.
I will pull up all the channels when I update EPG but it will not show the channels in the TV Guide.

Still nothing. I know its got to be one little step Im missing.

Where are you trying receive channels from? a digital cable network, or via an antenna?

Through the digital cable network, no antenna.

I tried the ATSC suggestion from above and then I changed the XMLTV settings to correspond to each of the above directions.
Digital CAB first, CAB second and then third Cable ready tv CAB. None of these seemed to help. Maybe I played around to much and I should un-install and start from the beginning?

Digital cable with non-Hauppauge non-HDHomeRun products can be a bit hit or miss.

You'll need this definition though.

[AVerMedia h797W QAM]
TUNING_TYPE=ATSC
TUNING_SPECIAL=2
FILTER_TUNER=AVerMedia Cx23888 BDA Tuner/Demod
FILTER_CAPTURE=AVerMedia Cx23888 AVStream TS Capture
PIN_TUNER_IN=Input0
PIN_TUNER_OUT=MPEG2 Transport
PIN_CAPTURE_IN=MPEG2 Transport
PIN_CAPTURE_OUT=MPEG2 Transport

It doesnt really which of those lineups you choose in mc2xml at this. They come into play after you've been able to successfully scan for channels.

I tried your suggestion with the AverMedia QAM settings. Was able to get the Map digital channels to EPG but then tried the pvrx2 and the TV guide and Live TV but still nothing. I then unistalled and the programs and started from the beginning but I got to the same spot.

I guess this TV card will go in the box until I upgrade to Win 7 and then I'll try again.

Thanks for all your help
