Yup, that's how all Norton products have worked for me in the past few years.

Indeed, nothing screws up a system like Norton crap. I used to call it the 'Norton Virus'.

The corporate stuff isn't so bad though...

yeah and its really hard to convince people to get rid of the crap off their system after they have been ripped off paying for it
