Hi Im a noob here in NZ,

I have a Nova T 500 with a ATI Radeon 4350 on a Pentium D machine running XP SP3 and 1.4.7. I managed to get everything up and running in a few hours and any problems i have encountered I have been able to solve with the help of this forum.

However I have a remaining issue with LiveTV which, as far as i can tell so far, only affects TV2 and One. All other channels are beautiful that I can tell so far.

These two channels can be viewed fine for about three minutes before the picture degrades like the flick of a switch. (I think its what you call combing). The edge of objects that move breaks down. This comes on about 3 minutes after starting to watch the channel very suddenly. Changing to another channel and coming back to the problem channel gets rid of it as does pulling out and immediately replacing the coax aerial cable, but after doing that you have another three minutes or so before the problem comes back. CPU utilization is only at about 10-15 %

I'm sure i have read somewhere someone with the same issue, but cant find it now. Ive tried ffdshow deinterlacing, DScaler deinterlacing, Alparysoft deinterlacing, doing the pass through. I have also tried the various renderers and there is no improvement.

Any ideas?

are you using video card's deinterlacing? that would be your best bet and look best..
what decoder? [normally] leave it on 'pass-thru' in config for deinterlacing..
is this only after seeks or commercial skip?
if so, it's a hotfixable item...[tho should have been fixed with sp3 upgrade]
what resolution video does it happen on? 1080i only?

Hi there,

No I'm not using the video cards deinterlacing - how/where do I set that up as I dont have that option in MISC. I have three options
None
Pass through
Alparysoft
ffdshow

Ive tried all those and non make any difference

Most of the decoders are Arcsoft at the moment as I found these work best. No this problem is nothing to do with seeks or commercial skips, it just happens at regular periods after you first start watching. Thanks for your input.

TVNZ 1/2 are 720p, so I don't think there should be any interlacing at all on the image.
(and if TV3 is looking good, your de-interlacing fine - it's 1080i)

This is on FreeviewHD?

I'm not actually providing any answers, maybe it's the weaker signal of the TVNZ mux vs MediaWorks? (what are TVNz 6/7 like?)

Hey JonnyCam

Yes this is Freeview HD.

TV3 picture appears fine though I will confirm it doesn't degrade after a few minutes. The only issue I had with TV3 was the audio and picture did not match up on TV3 HD but was okay on TV3+1 but I think I have that resolved that now via a lot of fiddling.

As far as I can tell so far, there is no issue with 6 and 7 so far, but once again I'll double check. I havent acutally watched a lot of live TV as it is just a bit of a test bed for now so I haven't had very long runs of being able to check everything and the issue with 1 and 2 is preventing me from switching over more permanently.

The issue is only on One and TV2 and only after about three minutes of watching.

Okay an Update

TV1 - No problems at all.

TV2 - Problem as described above. perfect picture and sound for approx 3-5 minutes then picture degrades suddenly. Changing channel to another Channel and then back again temporarily fixes

TV3 - Great picture but sound is a few tenths of a second of picture. No degrading of picture over time but cant stand to watch it.

C4- No picture but sound okay. I'm sure it had picture a few days ago.

Maori - No picture but sound okay. I'm sure it had picture a few days ago.

6 and 7 - perfect sound and picture with NO degradation after some time

I found last night, this issue is on live TV and watching current recording. If you watch the recording back while still recording you get the same issue. To resolve in that case you just skip back a few seconds and then it goes away for another three minutes before returning. And only on TV2. I have no idea what this issue could be but its serious enough that if I can resolve it I'll have to dump the system.
