This has probably been beaten to death, but what's the current word on XVid playback. The latest MVP has support for DivX and XVid but when I tried it, the audio and video were significantly out of sync. Can GBPvr transcode these files? How are people dealing with XVid files?

gbpvr itself will not transcode this formats for mvp users. And I dont think sub is planning on doing it in the near future.

XRecord has some hooks that you can use though.

Install the latest xrecord (either v16 or v17 both have it). Open the skin and look for converers. It will be commented out. Uncomment it ( ie Remove the <!-- --> around the block)

Now xrecord will show divx stuff. There are two batch files transcode and stoptranscode in the root gbpvr directory. They currently work with vlc but can be modified for any command line transcoder.

When you open a divx file you will see play grayed out and start transcoding highlighted. Select it, it will start the transcoding. When the mpeg exists the play will become highlighted.

You can modify stoptranscoding to use the app on wiki under xrecord for killps and delete the mpeg.

Let me know if you have any problems.

now if I can only find a command line transcoder for xvid files. All the ones I have found are GUI apps. And they all say something like "it's simple. Just follow these 17 easy steps". !!!

There's just something wrong about spending 8 hours working on my computer to watch 1 hour of silly TV.
