are you sure you have nothing calling NextPVR.exe in your updateepg.bat (or other batch file)? normally there is no reason NextPVR.exe would run as System. The nightly EPG auto-update is done by NRecord.exe in the existing instance.

no , certain. just checked. no scheduled tasks either. and no epgupdate.bat exists. Its weird as.

I don't know what to tell you. The only reason I can think of that you would get a NextPVR.exe running as System is if it's called in one of your batch files under npvr\scripts (that's the npvr data directory of course, not the program directory).

after a week or so now and I still have the dual instances of nextpvr running when bringing the pc out of suspend each evening . I kill off the existing process (running under system) as it tends to foul the foreground process. Any ideas why this auto-update version is not terminating cleanly? Its a proper annoyance and a daily chore.

Have you configured the app to run an MVP server? If so, then it'd be normal to have a second instance running as System, and you shouldnt need to kill it. If you havent configured it to run a server, then why do you have a second instance - you must be running it from one of the batch files like UpdateEPG.bat, or it wouldnt be there running as System.
