Does anyone have a good recommendation for a dual DVB-S / DVB-T tuner card for use with GBPVR in New Zealand (ie. Freeview) ??

I'm looking at the Hauppauge WinTV HVR 3000 available from PB Tech et al. Will this do a good job for me? Or is there something else cheaper or better?

Thanks in advance.
AMD A8-3870K 3.0GHz (onboard ATI HD6550 graphics), 8GB RAM, 500GB SSD + 2TB Hard drives, Hauppauge Colossus 2 (HDMI), Hauppauge WinTV-NOVA-S-Plus (DVB-S), Windows 10 64 bit, NPVR 6.1.5, MCE Remote/IR Blaster, IR Server Suite blasting to SKY TV (NZ) OnDemand set top box (Kaon NS1120).

HVR3000 is a tri mode tuner (Analog which is crap really) and DVB-T and DVB-S - this does not mean that you can record DVB-T and DVB-S at the same time.

It is a great card though, I have two of them in my system, and a nova-t 500 dual dvb-T. This gives me two DVB-S tuners and up to 4 dvb-T tuners - but in reality I'm only using the DVB-t for tv3.

There are some black gold tuners that people have imported (see geekzone) that a dual dvb-s and dual dvb-t - they're up in the $400 mark if you want one.

Thanks for the quick reply psycik. I don't need 2x dvb-s and 2x dvb-t on the same card. I just want 1x dvb-s and 1x dvb-t on the same card.

So the HVR3000 does not allow using multiple tuners simultaneously.... I wasn't aware of that. This was what I was expecting.

Would I be better to get two separate cards to get the functionality I'm after?

so the hvr3000 doesn't allow use of hte dvb-t and dvb-s at the same time.

But if a channel is on the same transponder then it can be recorded...ie if you wanted to you can record tv1, 2 tvnz6 tvnz6 all at the same time, same with tv3 and C4, and prime is a third transponder.

So ideally you want either 2 dvb-s or 2 dvb-t tuners then you can pretty much record everthing - with my system I can effectively assign a tuner to a transponder (I do this mostly on satellite for the popcorn hours benefit).

It's much easier to get a dual dvb-t tuner than a dual dvb-s...as long as your system can play dvb-t back comfortably. As there don't seem to be any dual dvb-s tuners around.

Personally I feel a dual dvb-t coupled with an hvr3000 the best mix - gives you 2 dvb-t and 1 satellite tuner (which is good for epg etc and mepg2 based recordings) - and then if you need to you've actually got a third dvb-t tuner if you need it. I find the DVB-S more useful for the editing ability of the files.

It all about a balance - I know a bunch of people that only have a dual dvb-t tuner - means they can do it all with only one card.

The very similar HVR-3300/4400 do allow you to do DVB-S and DVB-T at the same time, but there is some good logic in Psycik's reply above.
