Hi,

I know some will not find this usefull but I surely would Smile

Someone (http://www.tuaw.com/2010/12/14/hacksugar...ac-playba/) just developed an Airplay "server" for the mac.

A similar server in windows that would then transfer the image to, say a popcornhour, would be a great feature.

Now I can relate that it wouldnt be easy, but, since the popcorn hour has no bonjour support (that I'm aware of) it would be next to impossible to do it there.

Thanks for reading and considering the idea.

Pedro.

I had the same thought last week when I read that article. It would be cool, but highly unlikely.

I have been playing with the apple tv 2 with airplay. At first I kind of the air play concept was a little pointless, but after using it I do think it is pretty cool. I especially like it for things like podcasts. It really makes it easy to continue listening to a show from where you left off. I have also used for a couple of movies that started watching on my iPhone. I do think the next upgrade of Airplay will make it more useful though. It is still too limiting right now, like it does not allow you to play movies you just recorded on you iphone.

Well,

Now XBMC in Ubuntu is in the game Smile
http://www.tuaw.com/2010/12/20/airplay-r...linux-box/

According to the post, Windows is next.
Could it be captured to npvr, and sent to a popcornhour?
What do you think?

Or could the Airplay service be built directly on the popcornhour?

Yes, it's something similar to what Playon does.

The main advantage, as I see it, is being able to use the ipad, or iphone or itouch, for choosing what you want to watch and then sending it to the TV with just one (or two) clicks.

I am aware that building this service on the popcornhour directly would be much better, since you wouldn't need all the complexity involved in the capturing of the video stream and sending it over to the popcornhour. But that is what mvpmcx2 already does, right?

Point is that, as far as I know, there is no bonjour service for the popcornhour, and that is necessary for airplay to announce itself over the network.

Even so, I started a similar post in the nmt forum.
Hopefully someone technically inclined will be interested enough in this subject and give it a try.

I'm not seeing any advantages to having AirPlay control NPVR controlling a PopcornHour. If it is about playing content stored on the phone/tablet there are UPnP servers for most of them and you could likely use the Universe plugin.

@johnsonx42 I found out PlayOn can play YouTube in the Lite ("free") version so it has a little benefit for NPVR users who want 10' YouTube.

Hi

This is the setup I would like to get to....

Using an iPad or android tablet to browse the epg, recordings, video and music libraries; and then either playing them on the tablet or directing the output to a running npvr client. This could either be a pch or pc client (similar to airplay)

Also whilst browsing the epg on the tablet be able to setup/edit/cancel recordings. The advantage of this is you neither have to power up a PC or the TV (pch), or disturb someone who is already watching Livetv/a movie.

Plus an ipad would make a mean npvr remote control

That's my wish list :-)

BTW Merry Christmas

Looks like somebody is trying to a windows version of the airplay server:
