I thought my best bet would be to try to get the powerDVD decoder working with NPVR for both HE-AAC and AC3.
Currently, in the AC3 Audio list it shows as "Cyberlink Audio Decoder (PDVD10)", but I don't hear anything when playing an AC3 soundtrack. If I look at the properties (from within NPVR) I only get a "Miscellaneous" tab which allows me to select a compression level and Bass management. If I open settings from within PowerDVD, under Audio I can select the "speaker environment" mode "Use S/PDIF", but don't see the miscellaneous settings at all.
If I chose "Cyberlink Audio Decoder (PDVD10 UPnP)" I do get the option to select "Use SPDIF" from the properties within NPVR, but I still get no sound output.
I think I need a "standalone" decoder (with a standalone configurator) which will work for HE-AAC and AC3.
Until I find one, I'll just have to select the AC3 decoder when I want to use it.
