I am having trouble getting NextPVR set up on a new Windows10 PC, in particular the MPEG2 video decoder. I read that the Cyberlink decoder will work with NextPVR. I do have Cyberlink installed on my PC, so what is the MPEG2 video decoder file name that I should search for, and how do I configure NextPVR to use it?

Cyberlink decoders after about version 12 only work with Cyberlink. Quickest and easiest is probably LAV ...

What about the new Microsoft MPEG2 Video Extension - https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/store/p/...95q1zzpmh4 - has anyone gotten this to work with NextPVR? Microsoft specifically states that this includes a MPEG-2 Video Codec.

Quoting from Microsoft:

Description
The MPEG-2 Video Extension enhances Windows 10 to let you play more file types on all your devices – without having to leave your favorite app. If you have MP4 or MKV video files that don’t play, this extension will likely help. Specifically, this extension enables media apps on Windows 10, such as Microsoft Movies & TV, to play MPEG-1 and MPEG-2 videos.

Included codecs:
• MPEG-1 Video Codec
• MPEG-2 Video Codec

MPEG-2 is used on DVDs and was standard in digital cameras from the early 2000s. If you have unplayable videos with file extensions such as .mpeg, .mpg, .ts, .m2ts, .mkv, and .avi, this might make them playable. Please note that this extension by itself does not enable DVD playback for optical drives.

I'm not sure whether that installs the Microsoft MPEG-2 video decoder or not. It sounds like it would, but I don't know for sure.

Installing the Microsoft's "Windows DVD Player" from the Microsoft App Store does install the MPEG2 decoder, and it will then be useable in NextPVR.

I am happy to report that I got NextPVR to work on my Windows 10 PC by downloading and installing the free ffdshow Video for Windows codec https://sourceforge.net/projects/ffdshow-tryout/

The previous reply mentioned Microsoft's "Windows DVD Player" from the Microsoft App Store. I didn't try it because it cost $15. Since the new Microsoft MPEG2 Video Extension didn't work, I didn't want to gamble $15 on the DVD Player.

Thank you so much for sharing this tutorial. I was worried about this issue myself and now it has been resolved and my issue has been resolved without leaving my favorite app.
