Of course none of the codecs left on the computer can play divx. so I'll be looking at packs again

SAF4 doesn't support nPVR, you need SAF5.
When SAF4 become final, nPVR doesnot exists, is too outdated now.

To play your old MPEGs you need to set<ForceMpgGraph>false</ForceMpgGraph> in config.xml - SAF5 do this automatically.

Biggest thing for me is KNOWING which splitters, filters, mux.demux, codecs to find and install...

Maybe it's time to learn Graphedit so I can study the chains...

I don't have so much a trouble with a codec pack as not knowing all the stuff that's getting installed, included... and having their merits adjusted... It becomes hard to troubleshoot

Yup... exactly the person I didn't want to upset.. :-)

I had a problem with saf 500 where after everything was downloaded and unpacked into a temp folder, the installer would forget where the temp folder was for a few files... and some filters were skipped from the install.

I paused the installer and tried to snag and manually install what I thought was the stuff I needed... but at a certain point I gave up.

It's probably quite similar to how people try out my software: If it isn't easy and do what I think it should do on one, maybe two tries... give up.

Of course as a developer I have more patience... as a user I don't

Oh, no, i am not upset Smile
But i dont understand you problem. SAF dont use TEMP folder, it create its own to unpack then move to destination folder.
Do you have any antivirus installed? AVG for example?
I got some trouble report with AVG instaled or firewall enabled.
Can you post me SAF5 RC2 LOGs ? Look on system root for them. I can look what was not installed from them.

I meant the hidden 'T' folder that SAF creates... anyway..

I WAS using AVG a few weeks back when I tried.

Now that I know how to get my systems running well... I will give SAF500 one more try. I already have the key so I'll get info to you soon...

(PS... at first I was worried about this thread being a hijack... then I looked at the title again... :-) )

SAF 500 RC2 installed well on my XP system... It complained that I won't be able to use Hardware accel with EVR... in nPVR setup... I had new MPEG codecs to choose... I could never select 'Use Hardware' in the new codecs that showed up... So I went with my original Cyberlink Codec, where I could select Hardware Accel. Pretty much everything went well. Both GB-PVR and nPVR play new and old files just fine

I got a log file... but little point when it went fine...

On my Win7 64 bit... I was reminded why I gave up trying to install SAF500. I received 4 file lock errors: (with or with out UAC enabled, regular or 'run as Adminstrator'

d.bat
dxwebsetup.exe
extract.bat
kill.bat

I suspect that this is in Saf's cleanup mode... because after install finished... Everything appeared to work fine...

and SAF said the was a log.7z at C:\ root... and there wasn't... So I have nothing to send you

The errors are off-putting... I'm happy to use RC2... but I almost bailed on it again...

PS... after clean up the hidden folder c:\T still exists

So you dont have "SAF_LOGs.7z" on root folder?
My T folder is deleted after SAF install/uninstall - there must be something in your system what prevent delete.

BTW, you can run SAF with /debug switch, maybe you will found something in this mode...
