Well, I did steal it from the BBC web-site so it's not an original idea. It does reflect how I see most newspaper/magazine listings though which is probably why they did it that way.

Stepping backwards - looking again at your first example, it does actually work for me even with the description at the bottom. My main issue with horizontal time-line EPGs is that a 5 minute programme with a long title (for example) just gets squished into a couple of letters in a tiny box. With the full title shown it's more likely that I'd step down to it to see what the description is and as jasjol said, with a small screen, this approach gives more title listings.

Anyway, I look forward to seeing what happens.

Cheers,
Brian

PS Another idea I have for a vertical bar at the side of the screen showing conflict status can wait.  [Image: biggrin.gif]

Navigations are working, and you can schedule from this plugin.

You can toggle between vert guide descriptions at the bottom, vert guide descriptions in-line, and horiz guide.

I really like this layout. With the ability to create multiple guides built in to Guide2J, this will be my prefered view. I only care about a few channels anyway.

Todo:
Icons with the channel
Make more skinnable
List of channels on the left instead of one

Do you think the layout is right? What else am I missing? Should the channels go on top and be horz instead of vert ... to change the channel you do navigate left and right (you can also type in the channel and hit enter).

Having all three view options is great. I can see me still using the horiz. version for quickly scheduling things when I know what I'm looking for. The vert. options I would use parhaps last thing before going to bed in the same way as I scan through the Radio Times magazine for the next day.

For me personally I'm not bothered about having the other channels listed on the screen and I'm quite happy to simply navigate using left/right in the same way as I currently use up/down in the horiz. guide. Then again I only have 18 channels in my EPG download so it doesn't take long to step through them all and I know their positions almost by heart.

Also, channel logos are a nice touch but many are no good to me particularly on the MVP (they're unreadable) - again that's just a personal choice.

Perhaps if the channel name or logo was to the right of where you have the date in your image or perhaps where you have the clock - that way you could make the listings area wider which might save on some word-wrapping in descriptions - just a thought.

Anyway - I think it's looking really good.

Cheers,
Brian

I agree - I think it is good to get as much text horizontal as possible.
Maybe it would be ok to show the present channel and at the top left and top right show arrows maybe with channellogo or name - to show the user that it is possible to change channels by navigate left/right
