Do you have the Directx 9 runtime installed? NPVR will run much slower without it. The file is linked on the wiki and in many post here.

Hmm. DXDiag claims I have 9.0C, but if I go into settings I get the message "WARNING: The DirectX Runtime is not available on this machine. Software rendering instead." I'll try reinstalling DirectX to see what happens.

Edit: Updated from http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/en/de...laylang=en and now it's snappy like it should be Smile

So, just having 9.0c listed is not enough - it has to be updated, and Windows Update doesn't do that for you.
