gee, and i thought it was just me. i got my brand new usb-uirt yesterday and had it up and running in minutes (kudos sub, jon). it was working fine changing channels for gbpvr just fine, but somehow overnight something locked up. i did not see the light flashing - didn't know if the problem was the computer or the device itself. i tried unplugging the usb and reinserting - did not help. a reboot cured it. i should have tried just restarting the recording service but i did not think of it at the time. today it has worked fine so far.

i do not have girder installed - just the usb-uirt driver and gbpvr.

Not sure about this as I've only been experimenting with it today, but it I noticed that when I consistently use the keyboard to command GB-PVR, the USB-UIRT stays responsive, it only appears to quit when I use the hauppauge remote, so maybe its picking up something from that and it's sending it screwy.
I've just tried turning on the 'Use direct Access to Hauppauge Remote' option in config, and it's been working OK for a while, even when I do use the remote (bear in mind I only use the UIRT as a blaster) it seems to keep on working now. I'll post again when I can confirm o deny this.

Update - I was wrong. USB-UIRT still stopped responding, but maybe took a bit longer to do so.

Ah well.

the channel-changing stopped working again. i tried restarting the recording service, but it did not help. (i'm assuming that when the dialog box goes away, the service is restarted, but maybe that is not so.) at this point i'm pretty sure i closed gbpvr. i ran config, clicked OK (thus restarting service again), and re-ran gvpvr. then the usb-uirt worked.

BTW i am not using the usb-uirt for input at all. (gbpvr is configured to use the pvr-250 remote, although haven't been using it yet.).

This is driving me mad now as I have several season recordings that are queued up to start at times when I am watching previously recorded stuff, and they keep recording the wrong channel. I have to keep my eye on the clock, and if the time for a recording goes by (that I remember having set, and with my memory, thats a problem) I have to check the sat box using the lounge tv and then resort to the sat remote if it's still on the wrong channel.
:-(

update: i switched from using the usbuirt plugin to using a command for channel-changer which invokes a script and 'uutx' (available from support@usbuirt.com). it has worked well for a few days.

It seems that several people have had problems using USB-UIRT as a receiver, where it works for a bit but then freezes up. This has happened both when USB-UIRT is being used as a transmitter and when it's not.

I have created a work-around. See

http://remote2key.sourceforge.net/

It works by converting IR signals into keystrokes that GB-PVR uses.

To use remote2key, turn off the channel changer in your GB-PVR. Run remote2key, configure the key bindings for your remote control, and you're done.

Incidentally Remote 2 Key can be used to control other applications besides GB-PVR, but who'd want to use anything else? Smile

That's interesting. I had been using the USB-UIRT only as a transmitter and Girder for the receiver since I think Sub recommends that it only be used for one way. To do this I have been using Girder to learn the remote codes from the Hauppauge remote and then using Girder again to map those codes to the equivalent key stroke sequences to control gbpvr. I then use a universal remote to learn the Hauppauge codes.

This works most of the time but every now and then Girder won't respond to the remote - not sure why. Having this small program Remote 2 key might make life a little bit less complex - am going to try it out.

It should be ok these days to use it as a receiver and blaster at the same time. It used to cause a problem, but I'm pretty sure the bug was knocked on the head in v0.95

While I have had the 'time-out' issue before, it hasn't happned to me in a while, but when it does I am going to try out this 'remote2key'. It seems like a real nice application, straight forward, free etc. compared to Girder. I'm sure Girder is extremely powerfull, but for someone who just want's to press a button on his remote and have the computer think the 'spacbar' was pressed, this seems easier. In the end, I will probably have to learn girder regardless, but this app may push that off a while. Thanks for the idea rblack.
