My postprocessing.bat is written to call VLC and transcode recordings it was working fine but a
a month or so ago it stop working.

If I drag a video file (generated by NPVR) on to the postprocessing batch file it works fine, transcodes with no problem.
When NPVR runs the batch file after a recording ends VLC doesn't load properly consequently doesn't transcode.
Watching task manager the postprocesing file starts VLC.exe but the process only consumes 1MB of memory, where it would
normally consume ~30MB suggesting its getting stuck loading for some reason.

Even calling just notepad via the postprocessing bat it does the samething, partially loads.

Has any one else had this problem or can shed some light on it?

I'm running Windows 7 64bit Home Premium, NPVR 2.1.5 with the lastest patches as per the survival guide.

Since the recording service runs as a different user account (localsystem), VLC is probably popping up some first run message like 'welcome to vlc', and waiting for someone to click 'close' or something similar.

Just out of curiosity, would it be possible to run postprocessing as another user?

Only by changing the recording server service to run as a different user account.

I expect you could use the command runas in your batch file but I don't think it will help. vlc is typically an interactive app, so if you want it to run as a "hidden" command line program I would recommend you always use these three command line option

-I dummy--ignore-config --no-interact

Sub as usual you we're right, it was a send error report popup blocking VLC from
loading under the system account after some fiddling it now works fine.

In the end I used Ps Tools to open VLC under the system account and was able to clear the popup.

psexec -i -s cmd.exe and started VLC from there.

See for more info http://verbalprocessor.com/2007/12/05/ru...al-system/

Martin, I did have a look at using the runas command in the batch file but it didn't like
the fact the user account I use has a blank password. I will have play with commands you recommended though.

Thank for you help guys.
