What Windows one are you referring to? Do you mean the volume control applet? I shouldn't have to open that up and fiddle with it if I want to mute NPVR. Perhaps I am missing something here.

So im guessing from that you are using a keyboard
doesnt your keyboard have volume and mute on it
(i Have remotes for all computers(4) with nextpvr)

No, it is a simple keyboard without fancy stuff.
No remotes either. Even if I had a remote I don't know how it would interface with my system. My system would need some IR "port", which it does not have.

I don't use the remote on the PC, I solved the volumes issues by buying a great "used" multi-media keyboard with a volume knob, mute, play/pause etc for ten buck.

Separating volume from NPVR is best for me because it works even when NPVR doesn't have focus. There even was a music key which I faked to launch NPVR and starting with 2.1.5 it even give focus back to NPVR when it was minimized.
