I have only one PVR 350 in my box when im recording something and hit live tv, or something through the tv guide the screen goes black until i hit the home key at which point it states

"no capture-source was availaled to enable you to watch the requested channel" which make sense because its busy recording.

Is this the way its supposed to work? or should i still be able to watch live tv since its actively recording it? Is there anything i can do to improve this message/experience? I note that the tray icon is aware of when the recording service has captured the card does it exclusively lock the card?

Is there a way to modify the message displayed on screen or prevent it entirely by a check of the program so that if there is only one capture source and if the recording service has it active it displays a message saying there is an active recording and so only reocrded shows will be available? or a task which if the recording service is active and you hit live tv it switches you to recording automatically?

Thanks!

This is correct behaviuor. You have one tuner only, therefore you can only record watch at one point in time.

If you want to watch the show you're recording you can go to recordings->pending. There you should find the currently recording show, which you can then choose to play.

I don't use live tv myself, but it's my understandning that you can go the other way around too. If you are watching something in live tv, and you decide "this I want to save", you can hit the record button on your remote, and GBPVR will save all of the show that you have already watched (and until the end of the show, unless you switch channels or exit livetv mode).
I'm not always right

Yes this is true. Its my understanding that when you hit the rec button gb-pvr marks the file not to be deleted when you exit by hitting the back button. I think that this is based on the EPG data. In other words live TV is based around the currently viewed data.

From the v0.23 release (which I am not sure is still true as there have been a lot of changes since then)

From the change.log
2004-11-28 v0.23
- You can now press the "record" button on your remote whilst watching a program to record it. This records everything that GB-PVR has on the program, including the bits you've already watched. Please note, when you start a recording this way, it'll also stop when you leave live tv.
- You can now play a recording that is already in progress with out being kicked back to the menu half way through.

Thanks for the replies, makes sense.

So sub is there any possiblity of changing the message in a future release (or currently) or preventing access to the live tv when the recording is active or maybee speeding up the time it takes when trying to capture the card etc...?

Thanks!

Its just a bug that stops the message appearing until you press the home key. Its been corrected for the next release.
