I always thought this was possible so it won't have to be powered up all the time.
I can't find any post about it and not even in the wiki.

Is it possible and I just can't get it to work or am I way out of here.

It's not really a GB-PVR function so that's why the wiki doesn't cover it.

Going to sleep is controlled by Windows as long as your hardware supports it. Look for "sleep after X minutes" setting in the Power management control panel. This link might help if you're using Windows 7: http://windows7themes.net/how-to-put-win...ivity.html. If not just Google it.

What GB-PVR will do is wake up the PC from sleep when it's time to record.

Well I know the sleep thing is from windows itself Tongue I did mean the wake up.
I tried that yesterday again and it still won't wake it up, is there a "special" type of sleep it should be in, like Sleep, Hibernate etc.
and in BIOS, should it be S1 or S3 etc?

GBPVR/NPVR asks Windows to wake up the machine at the right time. (see nrecord.log for somethign like the below)
Code:
2011-12-14 09:02:06.802    [DEBUG][8]    Requesting wake up for 'EPGWAKEUP' at 15/12/2011 09:00
2011-12-14 09:02:06.875    [DEBUG][7]    Reloading recording schedule
2011-12-14 09:02:06.876    [DEBUG][7]    Requesting wake up for 'RecordingOID1178' at 16/12/2011 20:57
2011-12-14 09:02:06.876    [DEBUG][7]    Requesting wake up for 'RecordingOID1176' at 17/12/2011 18:57
2011-12-14 09:02:06.876    [DEBUG][7]    Requesting wake up for 'RecordingOID1177' at 17/12/2011 21:02
2011-12-14 09:02:06.876    [DEBUG][7]    Requesting wake up for 'RecordingOID1179' at 18/12/2011 23:42

The machine can only wake from standby or hibernate, it will not wake from switched off. I can't recall anything special that needs to be set in the bios.
Can your machine wake from events set in Windows Scheduler? - I think the wake mechanism used is the same.

I have been using wake/hibernate for years with no problems other than the odd time when it won't go to sleep and then a reboot gets it working again.

The I better try it again. Haven't had any issues that had to be done when off before so I don't know if it'll wake up from a scheduled item.

Another thing, if a shutdown is in progress and during that a wake up call is coming, will it be able to start the PC when it's shutdown?
(If you know what I mean)

A shutdown won't start if a wakeup is due shortly - both are done by Windows, so it sorts itself out and won't go to sleep if it is due a wakeup call Wink

This can be why people see problems when testing sleep/wake - you have to leave a minimum time for an event or it gets ignored - I think I found around 10 minutes was needed when setting up a test recording, otherwise he PC never went to sleep. Probably more might help.

It's worth checking if the ACPI (Advanced Configuration and Power Interface) is enabled in the BIOS (some have it turned off by default). Most of them also have options to establish which types of wakeup requests are permitted (WOL, USB call, timer, etc). Some older models have bugged implementations of ACPI. I recall reading about a bios where setting ACPI to ON would disable it, and setting it to OFF would do the opposite. Rolleyes
