I was setting up a machine and started off with a PCTV nano stick 290e DVB-T2 thingy.
When set to use DVB EPG the TV guide was not populating the HD channels and I was just wondering if this was normal or an oddity?

I didn't want to post in the support area as I am remote from the machine and couldn't answer questions or provide logs for some days.

Yes but it's encrypted. Cannot be decrypted for PC's as far as I know.

Ah - I thought that was the Freesat rather than the Freeview one. Not to worry, a small xmltvgui grab will have to do.

DVBGuide might be able to do it, assuming the encryption is the same as Freesat's, because it can handle that (and grab from DVB-T), but I don't have a T2 tuner so can't test it.

Yup, dvbguide can grab an EPG from the DVB-T2 mux. What I can't get my head around is why on earth would they encrypt the EPG just for the freeview HD channels? (if it is encrypted - and I'm not convinced it is).
I've managed to get a log created and getting emailed to me. It would look like it is locking onto the HD mux but returning a zero 'quality' setting and no epg data. I'll post in support when I get it.

Probably for the same reason they do it for Freesat, so that only licenced hardware manufacturers can officially decrypt it and therefore put the Freeview HD badge on their boxes. It might be a pain, but it's far better (for us) that they do that instead of encrypting the actual broadcasts.

Hmmm, a quick peek with tsreaderlite certainly looks like the EPG is garbled.
I see the EPG for HD is sent on other MUX's, but is garbled as well - how childish.

Freeview HD EPG is encoded with Hoffman Tables - the same as freesat.
For the last 9 months I have used DVBguide on the ITV mux to get the entire EPG -it takes about 8 minutes to download. If I can get the computer to stay awake that long when waking for an update I get the complete 7 day EPG for all terestrial channels.
It's not an overly complicated system - it's more - overly simple operatives  Huh
