I'm not sure what I've done here!

BlackGold BGT3620 dual tuner
Windows XP
United Kingdom/Sandy Heath transmitter
NPVR 2.2.6 + Patches R1

When I originally set things up a few months ago, I selected the "copy settings" option when setting up the second tuner. Everything was working fine.

Then a couple of channels stopped working (I don't remember the details, unfortunately), so I did a retune on both devices. This worked, except that the channel list now showed several duplicate channels.

Then, a couple of weeks later, everything stopped working (all channels simply showed a black screen), and retuning didn't cure things. To try to get a complete "factory reset", I renamed the npvr.db3 file (I hope that wasn't a mistake), and did a rescan. No channels at all were found.

The following morning, I power cycled the computer, and repeated the retune. This time channels were found as expected, *except* that they all have the wrong channel numbers -- before I started this exercise, the channel numbers matched those in the published channel guide, now it looks as if they have simply been allocated sequentially as the scan found the channels.

I've since updated the driver on the BlackGold device to the latest version, renamed the npvr.db3 file again, and rescanned. The channels still have the wrong channel numbers, though.

So, a few questions...

1. How can I get the proper channel numbers back?

2. What's the right way to do a channel rescan, keeping the two devices sharing the same channel list?

3. Is renaming the npvr.db3 the right way to do a "factory reset" on the channel list, or is there a less brutal solution?

Thanks for any help!

Have you installed DVBfix from the Media Portal site as it is needed for XP to cure some problems? My single tuner worked fine under XP without the patch but I bought a dual tuner card and that had problems crashing while two programs were recorded. DVBfix cured the crash problem but cause the tuner to only do a partial scan. My temporary work around was to run NPVR with the fix installed but uninstall it while I did a channel scan but the permanent solution was to install Vista.

Under XP I always had problems with many of the Freeview channels been given the wrong number. I just renumbered them but this was another “Feature” that reluctantly moving to Vista cured.

Renaming or deleting the db3 file deletes the channels but also all your recordings. To just delete all the channels just select them all under Settings > Channels and select "Delete".

I did try DVBfix when I first installed NPVR, but found that something didn't work (perhaps tuning, I don't recall now), and uninstalled it again because things seemed to work perfectly well without it, so I don't think that's the problem this time.

Maybe it's time to think about upgrading the OS, but it seems odd that it used to work, but doesn't now.

Aha! I've just installed the R1 patch rollup to 2.3.6 and done a rescan, and the channels are now all back on their correct numbers :-) Perhaps "reject bogus PSIP data causing channel not found during scan" might have cured my problem?
