Wasn't sure whether to post it here or in the main thread, decided to try here first.

I'm having trouble with audio sync on the MVP with mpg-files. When I worked with gb-pvr 1.3.7 I think I could correct the problem with a small skip (backwards usually), but I'm not sure because these are usually the kids movies and I don't always watch with them.

So, I have a lot of dvd's for the kids. I think it's not possible to watch the ifo's and vob's, so I converted them into mpg's. Not all of them, but a lot, have these audio sync problems. I tried tmpgenc and anydvdconverter for conversion, but I'm not sure if that makes much of a difference.
Is it the mpg-filetype? Would it be better to use another type? If so, which one? And do I keep the skip possibilities with it?

Just to make this post complete, I have added a link to download a fragment of an mpg-movie I'm having this problem with (150MB cut): http://www.megaupload.com/?d=I7PHW0NH
And wanted to add that I don't have this problem with recorded (ts) files and only on the MVP.

I didn't try playing it yet, but it is marked as NTSC which won't play well on a PAL MVP/TV. Newer extenders and PC's convert from NTSC/PAL, the MVP is too dumb for that.

Ah, okay. That might be a good clue. I will persue this further. Thanks for the info!

Martin,

I checked the dvd from which I got the mpg-cut. It was PAL, but I probably converted it to NTSC accidentally.

I've got 2 questions:
1. what program do you use to check if a mpg-file is NTSC or PAL? That's the easiest way for me to test all the mpg's.
2. My tv is 4:3 (PAL). What if I convert the dvd's to 16:9? Will the picture get distorted or not ? (asking because I hope to one day have a 16:9 tv and I don't want to have to do the conversion of all the dvd's all over again then).

I use and recommend Mediainfo for determining information about the a/v files. Regarding aspect ratio, it is personal preference, but I suggest you respect the original aspect ratio, any good conversion program should allow setting of the a/r bits.

Forgot to report back, sorry.

I converted half of the kids videos again from original PAL DVD to mpg and these all play fine now. So far so good. If I encounter any problems I will report here.
