Hi

I thought i would post this question...., i have 2 clients (XP 64bit and 7 64bit) looking at the same server, both have identical video cards, but this problem is the same no matter what video card is installed. All settings between the installs in the NPVR are identical including themes

However the Windows 7 install has way larger fonts used meaning text overlaps just in NPVR (didnt matter what theme i used).

Why would this happen (its Windows 7, but what does the theme look at over the font size, both systems are 96DPI with no zoom enabled and 1920 x 1080.

Ideas?

Both clients work fine, just a font size issue, the UI zoom in the NPVR settings are both 0 and dont effect the font itself.
Many Thanks
Ashley

I think 7 defaults to the medium 125% font size on larger screens, while XP used the small 100% font size regardless. I don't know for sure, but NPVR font rendering may be governed by the system font size setting (it certainly sounds like what you're seeing). If you go into the Display control panel there's a Font Size option - set it to Small 100%. (edit: it isn't clear from your post, perhaps you've already set this, in which case I don't know)

I thought this, however i cant find anything in 7 SP1 with any sizing other than the DPI, however i also notice that the Desktop icons arnt controlled via the DPI either (as it was in XP).

With 7 hold down the CTRL key and roll the wheel mouse to adjust icon size and font size for the desktop, this means there is a setting missing with regards the "font size" itself, however 7 seems to use the DPI for this, and i cant seem to set this down to a "-" value..... going to do more research on that as i would think the rendered size is controlled via the system.
Many Thanks
Ashley

ive looked at this for abit, it might be the font itself, however depending on the "background" or color set chosen some options vanish (Windows 7 is so great o make options vanish that are still needed).

In the search bar in the start menu i found "Change Window Color and Metrics" you get all the window color, fonts etc...

However thinking about this, i am also now using Direct X for NPVR, would this have anything to do with it as all other Windows seem to be fine on the font size...
Many Thanks
Ashley

If you go into the Control Panel in Win7, and click on Display, the very first thing you see is the general text size setting, with 3 choices - "Smaller - 100%", "Medium - 125%", and "Larger - 150%"; nothing about DPI (though there is an option to set a custom DPI). You should have this set to "Small". If it's already set to small it might be wise to switch to Medium and then back to small again which I think will reset other changes you may have made.

It's also possible this has nothing to do with it, and Win7 is just different than XP in this area.

FIXED

It seems to be something slighty different between the aspect ratio and the window size, it seems with Windows 7 the screen size you set has to match the aspect ratio both set in the "General" settings.

This didnt effect XP however does in Windows 7, i would think something to do with how Direct X impliments it as had issues with the screen size on playback (i had to use VMR9 Custom to get whole window size playback).

It was on small already in the control panel, this isnt the first time ive had Icon / Font size issues in Windows 7 from XP / software, as doing XP upgrades to 7 as part of server deployments i get bombarded with "this doenst look the same" being 90% of the clear up calls after a site converstion.
Many Thanks
Ashley
