Can you run filtercheck.exe, and post the filtercheck.log that gets created?

ummm... why do you think you have 4 tuners? the HVR-2250 has 2 hybrid tuners - each can record digital OR analog, not BOTH. You had both tuners in use, so of course it failed when you tried to watch/record analog.

The plot thickens though when we consider that NPVR is well aware that the digital and analog 'side' of each tuner on an hvr-2250 share the same tuner hardware, so it should not have even tried to start an analog recording. It should have simply informed you that "no tuner is available for this recording".

I'm still sure the issue is caused by the fact that you have duplicate copies of your digital tuners. This duplication has 'divorced' the digital and analog sides of the tuners, so that NPVR no longer sees them as part of the same device and thus tries to use them independantly of each other. I don't know how or why the duplication happened, but that's where it all went wrong.

You could try just deleting the 'wrong' copy of each digital tuner, but I suspect you will either be left with one or more non-working tuners, or all will work but NPVR will still see the analog and digital sides of the tuners as separate devices and you'll still have the same problem.

I honestly think you will need to delete ALL the tuners in NPVR (aside from the IPTV device), exit NextPVR.exe and shutdown the recording service, then delete the HVR-2250 tuners from Device Manager, then reboot. Let Windows re-install the drivers for the tuners, reboot again just to be sure. Now run NextPVR.exe and configure your tuners again. Rescan for channels on both digital tuners - make sure both can actually receive channels, don't just copy them over to the second tuner (just being on the safe side here). Then load your analog channels and map your epg to your digital channels. Now all should be well.

I feel so stupid. The Amazon description is clear if you know ahead of time that there are exactly two tuners, but when NPVR and MediaPortal reported 4, I thought I must have gotten lucky, for once.

It did. In the case of "watch," the message was slightly different but meant the same thing.

I remain confident that my original report was correct. (Could watch but not record a channel.) It had happened several times. But the two disabled tuners were enabled at that time.

OK, I just deleted the bogus ones. Exited, rebooted, and restarted. They're back, enabled, with no channels mapped.

Then I did the whole Windows Delete process you described. Windows tried to install drivers, failed. Used Hauppage disk, which suceeded. Now NPVR shows 6 devices: 2 ATSC, 2 QAM, and 2 Analog. I have disabled the ATSC ones and am scanning the other 4. It will take hours to get mapping back. I may forego that until this is resolved.

Things seem stable now. Will report if any problems are seen, but I suggest this be closed as not reproducable.

If deleting the ATSC "tuner capability" was the problem, then perhaps the right-click menu should have "disable" instead of "delete". It seems to me there's very little difference in resource-use between the two.
