Sorry, I dont really have any advice for you on where to get decoders. I mainly use the Arcsoft and Mainconcept ones that are installed with the Hauppauge WinTV software. For MPEG2 I'm using the Microsoft DTV-DVD Video Decoder that comes with Win7 though.

If you're on Window 7, try switching to that MPEG2 decoder, otherwise maybe try http://www.free-codecs.com/download/MPV_Decoder.htm

some have suggested the Cyberlink PDVD12 decoder, which you can get if you download the trial version of PowerDVD12. SAF6 also includes it somehow, but I think you have to PM hoborg to get it "unlocked".

Thanks I will give the cyberlink PDVD12 a try

I have XP, I need a newer system in order to run windws 7. So I will also give the MPV_Decoder a try.

Should I use these decoders just for the MPEG2, no audio etc. or switch to it for everything (all video & audio)?

Also should I uninstall LAVdvd

Should I uninstall the LAV decoders or does it not matter if they are still installed as long as I select a different one?

Start with the MPEG2 video decoder. If it doesn't help, then try also switching out the audio decoders.

It should be fine to leave it installed.

you should only select the decoders you actually need; everything else should be set to "Disabled". For canada you need an HD-capable MPEG-2 video decoder, and decoders for MPEG-1 Layer II and AC3 audio. AC3Filter can be used for both Audio needs, as can the LAV Audio decoder.

Mine changes channels immediately as well. Sub has done a lot of focused work on getting the HDHomeRun working efficiently over the years and it works like a dream now.

I agree with the decoder selection suggestion. I only use LAV for the audio with TV/Recordings.

Ok so I downloaded the trial Power DVD 12 and did not see the PDVD12 decoder as an option anywhere in the settings of Next PVR.

I also tried to install the MPV decoder that sub suggested and can't figure out how to install it. It seems to be 2 files in a zip colder, do I have to place these somewhere a next PVR folder?

I did try different MPEG-2 decoders and something called Sonic MEPG-2 decoder (I think), and when selected it seemed to be able to change channels fairly quickly. But when ever I right clicked to bring up the menu or channels it would get really slow and choppy. I will try and post another video sometime this evening.

Here's the install guide for the MPV decoder:

http://www.free-codecs.com/guides/How_to..._files.htm

I think I used this decoder under XP and it worked pretty well.

I did some channel change testing on my test box and there is one channel from my cableco that tends to have a "messy" stream that has a slow channel change (but also does not play smoothly). My TVs have no problem with this, but NPVR does.

Thanks! I looked and didn't see any install instructions.
