I've used GBPVR for ages and it has been great - now updated to NPVR and I can't figure out how the EPG works. I'm probably getting to old Sad (oh no it even says "Senior Member")

My setup is:
DVB-T
DVB-S2
dual tuner DVB-T2 & DVB-S2

I've scanned all and got 1472 channels. I will delete the ones I don't want in the channel list or device setup.

So then I have duplicate channels - one for each tuner type?

eg my first 6 channels are all "Channel 4"

When I update EPG, I get a good epg for the DVB-T list (over a days worth) and little for the DVB-S and it seems to be trying each channel - is that normal? I don't know how the EPG arrives, it looks like for T its one blob of data and for S is data per channel.

Anyway getting to the point.
How do I set it up so that:
a. In the TV guide there are not 6 "channel 4" but just 1 BUT all any tuners channel 4 will be used depending on tuner use.
b. Can I set the TV Guide that is showing the listing for DVB-S OTA EPG so it uses the EPG from the OTA DVB-T listing.

I'm not sure how the mapping works from actual tuner channels to TV guide and what tuners get used for the same channels.

Previously I used XMLTV and I could map a channel to the xmltv listing channel, I see I can do that in the bulk map dialog but there seems no way to map the OTA guide.
Am I right in guessing that:
1. if I delete channels from the channel list it only affects what is shown in the TV guide but any tuner with the channels can be selected as per the tuner priority scheme.
2. if I delete channels from the device setup list then they will go from the TV list but they will also not be available on the tuner for use. That is I may end up with 1 tuner only for "channel 4" whereas deleting from the channel list 1 still have all tuners for channel 4 but 1 TV listing.

Sorry for the log winded but I'm sure it will help other numpties like me Smile

cheers
Keith

A few unrelated things here.

By default, DVB-S and DVB-T channels are listed separately because NextPVR doesn't know they're same channel. You can select two channel in the Settings->Channels screen, then right-click and hit 'merge', and then the app will just treat them as two possible sources for the same channel (and only list them the once in the TV Guide). Merge them with the DVB-T version so that the DVB-T listings are available.

I think I remember reading Channel4 transmit multiple versions of channel on DVB-S, with regional adverts etc, so this is why you've probably got multiple of these listed in your DVB-S scan results. You can delete the ones you dont want.

Freesat doesn't transmit the standard DVB EPG, so you wont get full listings with them by default. You can use the DVB-T listings if you're merging with DVB-T channels though, or otherwise supply your own xmltv file with listings.

Thanks for the quick reply

If I merge DVB-T, DVB-T2, DVB-S and DVB-S2 - is the selection of listings fixed to always select the DVB-T over the DVB-S?

Was I correct in my description of what happens if I delete channels in the settings -> devices setup as opposed to the settings ->channel?

Will there be a skin that looks like GBPVR I liked the rolling main menu.

I'm sure I'll have other queries later but its all looking fine, I'm on Win XP SP2 .net 2.0 will I have problems sticking with this?

Thanks again sub

When you right click, it shows you a merge submenu where you select which will be the master channel. Select the DVB-T channel as the master, and it'll us it for listings.

If you delete a channel from the Settings->Channels screen, all references to that channel will remove in all the devices, and that channel will no longer be available.

If you delete a channel from the Settings->Devices->[device] screen, then that device will no longer be used to supply that channel. If other devices still supply that channel, then it can still be watched using other devices. If no devices are left to watch that channel, then it'll be automatically deleted.

No.

That should be fine. Personally I prefer Win7 these days.

If there was any chance of this making a return at some stage in the future I would most definitely add my +1 as I also much prefer the rolling/scrolling vertical MainMenu (but not the other bits & bobs like jumping sideways etc.)

For the DVB-T channels you should get 8 day EPG but for DVB-S you will only get "Now & Next". If you want the full 8 day DVB-S guide as found on Freesat then you need DVBGuide which can read the non standard Freesat EPG and output it as an XML file. I dont have a DVB-S card at the moment but when I did I merged satellite and terrestrial channels in NextPVR so for many channels you can use either the DVB-T EPG or the Freesat EPG using the XML file from DVBGuide.

Some of the DVB-S channels are regionalised for advertising only but only BBC1 and ITV1 broadcast regional programmes, mainly local news. If you have problems selecting the correct version then try the link below for 28.2E

Thanks for all the info - that's helped get things sorted a bit.

I'm still installing bits, having changed a few tuners and got more external storage. Upgraded the cpu, memory and graphics.

Win7 would be nice but until I get stuck it's an expense I'd like to avoid (someone else might also complain as I handed down my old PC to her now I have my nice i7; the media PC gets hand me downs as well Big Grin )

cheers

I'm trying to merge channels from different tuners but...

if I select a few in the list and get the merge menu, it lists the channels selected - I assume the one I click will be the one that is the source for the EPG. However, I can't tell which channel is from which tuner as the source column just has dashes in.

I tried auto merge but there is no option to say I want the EPG from the DVB-T rather than DVB-S.

Any ideas, or tweeks that can be done.

Thanks

"..." means "multiple mappings". ie, that channel might have both DVB-S and DVB-T, or multiple DVB-T, etc.

The attached patch will list each mapping in the merge context menu.

Thanks sub thats exactly what's needed. I guess the "..." in the column could be expanded out as well. The "..." in my case seems to be DVB-T, DVB-T or DVB-S, DVB-S.

Looking at the resulting source list I guess the first in the list is the EPG source.

I think it would be really useful in the channel details -> EPG source drop down box to expand the DVB/ATSC EGP item out to the seperate possible OTA EPG sources. It would provide some confirmation of which source the channel is associated with and allow that to be changed, as there does not seem to be a way to change it after merging. It would be a bit frustrating to merge 100 channels down to 20 and click the wrong one at the end.

cheers
