Virgin Media upgraded us to a TiVo when we moved house a couple of weeks back. One nice little feature it has is when resuming playback after FF it seems to attempt to adjust position backwards to compensate for human reaction time.

In other words, when I fast-forward through adverts and see the programme start again and hit Play, it actually resumes playback from a few seconds before the point where I hit Play. Basically if I'm fast enough I just get the last second or 2 of the last advert and then the programme starts without missing any dialogue etc.

Would this be possible to implement with NextPVR? Thinking about it perhaps also Martin might comment as I generally only use npvr with the PCH.

Cheers,
Brian

Yeah, we could probably add something like this.

I can't see this being successful on the NMT since the times needed aren't going to be precise enough.

Martin.

@sub - Thanks but obviously not a priority.

@Martin - Not sure if it would make a difference but I was probably being super conservative with my timing of 1 or 2 seconds skip back. I just watched a couple of recordings and I'd say it's more like a skip back of perhaps 10 seconds (possibly 15). I think when I've seen the resume point as only 1-2 seconds from the end of the adverts I'd probably hit Play when FF was 8-9 (or 14-15) seconds into the programme (for example).

In essence it's a case of an auto-skip back / auto-play combination when the user hits Play after an FF operation and if a longer skip back period was needed for timing reasons then it could still be a nice feature.

For this to work, sub would probably need to differentiate from HD and SD. The problem is SD FF is running at about 8x speed and with the delay informing NextPVR it probably tracks a bit too far, while with HD FF is running about 1.5x speed so the skip back would need to be different. I will check to see when I put it to play, I might be able to avoid the turnaround, like I did with pause.

XBMC has a nice 7 second rewind key, on top of several other modes.

And the skip back might depend on how fast you have fast forward running. If it was just one press, maybe a skip back of 2 or 3 seconds would be good, super fast forward might take 20 seconds to skip back. I assume this would be just another setting in the config.XML because everyones system or service providers are different with a default value maybe. I'd like this feature though.
