Any ideas?

Posted the below in the other thread as well....

Kill the files in the temporary ASP.Net directory....I think that is probably the issue:

32-bit: C:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v2.0.50727\Temporary ASP.NET Files\npvr

The downgrade to 2.0.3 cured my streaming trouble. Now i can't get my live tv to work from a remote location.

Thanks UncleJohnsBand!

Well....interesting. And stranger than friction....

I already had remote streaming set to true. Still no joy when viewing a channel remotely.

Then just for a lark I changed the newa config stream player from vlc to wmp. Voila remote streaming started working.

Everything working remotely and within the lan now. Even turned the firewall back on and all is good.

Who would have thought.

New discovery...

When turning streaming off and on in the config.xml...

I discovered that if you use True it won't work. YOu must use true. (small t not cap T)

Now I am working on getting the transcode of live tv to work.....I'll let ya know how that goes.

I'll look into that setting.

As for streaming for of live tv.....if you are refering to the link in the channel area of the guide the streaming is done by NPVR....not VLC. NEWA just provides the VLC browser plugin to play the stream.

VLC is used from the Details page for watch now and the maange & video pages for stream.

That is interesting..... what transcode settings are you using?

Since this is working with wmp but not vlc player it tells me that VLC on the server is working fine but it is the browser plugin on the client that is having the issue. Try the latest NEWA release that includes the update to point the client browser to the latest vlc plugin ID and see if that helps at all. But at least there is a little progress in that the Server stream generation is working and the issue is now isolated down to the client player.

Yes the lastest 1.30 does fix that issue. I had noticed, there were two plugins installed in the browser. One was functional the other not. After I deleted the offending plugin and reinstalled the correct plug in it worked. 1.30 fixed the issued so that either plugin will function.

Currently I am mucking around with the transcode settings for streaming. I seem to have settled on a bit rate of 512 a scale of 1.00 and transcoding using manual options mux = TS Vcodec H.264/Mpeg-4 AVC Acodec MPEG4 A bitrate 96 Vencoder H264. The H264 options are set in the way you suggested. Seems to be working for the most part and the quality from a point outside the lan (ie work Wink is pretty darn good.

My project for tonight is to straighten out the transcoding of live tv. I have it working in and out of the lan, but the bit rate is just too high for remote use. So far any transcoding I have tried fails.
I am not sure if I must turn transcoding to true in both the config.sml and the config-web.xml and if I need to update ffmpeg or try some different settings.

I'll prolly have questions for you tomorrow! lol

Thanks again UncleJohnsBand.

Just a note that 1.30 fixed the issue I had, which was VLC crashing on the server. Streaming/transcoding for live tv and recordings both work perfectly from within my LAN... I'll check out external streaming later.

A very nice piece of software... thank you!

You'll find (in most cases) you can drop the scale down to .50 and increade you bitrate and then let the client browser scale it up (i.e. fullscreen) and have negligable impact on quality.
