Hi

I would normally use Hauppauge only, however the only HD card i can find is the colossus, and its not low profile.... anyone have any other recommendations that will be just as good as the Hauppauge that has a hardware encoder?

Has to be an internal card so anything USB wont really do.
Many Thanks
Ashley

AFAIK there's only those 2 if you want hardware hd encoding...colossus and HDPVR[usb] or the gaming edition [usb also]
i've had no problems with the usb version for years now, wondering why it can't be usb?
Aver has a couple of cpu encoding hdmi input cards, but not good results with them from most people..
i believe there is a hi end card out there like Black Magic cards but they are extremely expensive [pro style]
Hardware: HDHR Prime, HDPVR 1212, Raspberry pi2, VFD display w/LCDSmartie

In a 32U cabinet, theres no physcial room to put external devices, however it appears i might need to use the PVR500 until i can get something or a USB device, however its going to create a nightmare getting it into the cabinet.

I have a HVR2250 at the moment, so might just use that until something comes along.
Many Thanks

Since the cable/satellite box isn't going to be rackable either is it really that much of a concern? My HDPVR is in a closet 10' from my PC controlled by the USB and firewire(tuning) cables, and it really is maintenance free. Don't be afraid because of USB. I have an original HDPVR and the HDPVR 2 and I prefer the original because I need Dolby sound.

The receiver is over 5 meters from the cabinet (cable run), this creates and issue with USB lengths, also a major issue with cable count from the cabinet to the main site where the cabling is. At this point i will use something inside the server and change it up as low profile cards start to appear, i would think its going to be a year or more before i need to open the cabinet unless its hardware upgrades which i have going over the next 18 months.
Many Thanks

I wasn't promoting a long usb run, simply meaning you might be able to locate the hdpvr with the stb away from the pc.

Hi

I did understand, i wanted to explain why i didn't want an external USB device, it appears to be a supply / demand thing now-a-days as the external units look like XBox from what i can see, its a nice designed, i'll revisit this once i move the Cabinet to the basement server room (might take a few months)
Many Thanks
Ashley
