"Vista will recognize the Manta receiver as an a Microsoft eHome Infrared Transceiver and will automatically install the drivers for it. For windows XP, you’ll need to download the driver update from Microsoft to recognize the Manta (and most IR recievers). This makes it instantly useable with any windows MCE remote control (the most common kind). "

Not sure about the blasting though - as it's say's it not currently available for the mac software, but because it uses the same driver - you could use other software to blast from it (I use some software to blast via the MCE receiver ports, but the name escapes me) but $20 USD seems like a good price.

I use cscript to send commands to the app to blast whatever. sample code with the app.
