Yes, i haven't renamed the channels are anything like that, so in effect my channel list is messy. But does show as mapped and when running live tv in NextPVR the working channels come up fine. I figure why spend the time cleaning the list when the initial grab by NextPVR will allow me to test whether XBMC can connect to it at all.

Out of the 500 odd channels, only ~50 are actual live channels. Wouldn't XBMC just list what NextPVR has initially mapped?

thanks

It's seeing everything you have listed as enabled channels and blanks aren't allowed.

Great - removing blank channels worked for me also. Thanks.

btw... scanning in new york city finds a lot of blank and unknown channels. Anyone know what is the best way to map/remove these channels?

I'm in the same boat.....Time Warner Cable NYC QAM plugged straight into the HDHomerun. (I really only pay for internet and get a handful of stations, lots of Spanish language channels.) However the scan picks up tons of "Unknown" channels. Trying to figure out the best solution. Here's what I believe so far:

When scanning I get ~470 odd "channels".
In the findings the vast majority of the found channels are "Unknown 12.1234", etc.

A very small collection of channels do get recognized and labeled, WABC, CBS, LiveWel, etc. I'm not in front of my setup, I guess it's ~8 channels.

A good collection of ~50+ channels are found but have no label, it's blank....these are the channels which was screwing up my scan in XBMC. Once I labeled them...the scan went through.

The interesting thing is these "unlabeled" channels are actually working stations. For me it's likely I just need to remove all the "Unknowns" and work my way from there. (Although I do feel there may be 1 or 2 "Unknowns" that will pop up with a working station.)

SiliconDust, the makers of HDHomerun, maintain a database for channels in many areas...including NYC. (My zip is 10028.)
When running it's own scan for stations it populated what it believes are the right channels with their names populated with them. I think NextPVR actually recommends using SiliconDust's website in their walkthrough to take advantage of their database.

I'm not totally sure it's findings in my zip is 100% accurate, I'll need to do the due diligence to check it. At the end of the day, I may need to check all found 470 odd channels....unless someone has a better way.

With that said...I get the concept of Schedules Direct and XMLTV....just haven't figured out how it'll apply specifically to my setup. TWC has this concept of North Manhattan or South Manhattan, Cable or Cable Ready, without telling you where you actually live respective of that designation or if I'm considered "Cable" or "Cable Ready". Calling them find out is not exactly the best idea for me.

Am I the only person to just subscribe to internet....and then plug in the 'ole COAX to the TV to see what happens and got the OTA networks and a handful of mostly crappy SD channels??

Most cable companies do not include the channel information in the data stream. Silicondust's database requirees user input. If someone in your area inputs the info, you will see it when you do your scan. You can enable "Inject CVCT" in th HDHR Setup (advanced tab) and the HDHR will inject that data into the data stream.

Thanks! I'll try that. It will certainly shorten the time to get the channels straightened out.

Not sure if this is helpful, but I use a DCR-2650 (rebadged HDHR Prime) with a cablecard and basic cable. A scan shows hundreds of channels with no indication of what is encrypted. I went to my providers website (Comcast) for my area to see what basic cable channels were provided. These turned out to be the only ones which were not encrypted, which I then mapped to my xmltv channels. Everything else is disabled.

All fine

Renaming the blank channels solves the problem
