I'm with Mike here. Do you have Component on your TV? Can you leave the blaster connected to NextPVR and the STB but unplug the Component from the Colossus and plug it into the TV ... You might be able to run NextPVR on the 'puter, go to Live TV and select a channel and see what is displayed on the TV. Might help identify a problem with the STB or the Colossus.

Graham, I have done that. I have now only component going to colossus, and using live tv to view the channel. I can see and hear it fine.

I am doing a complete removal of the drivers, arcsoft software, wintv software etc.... and resetting up as per hauppauge support.... i'll see if that makes a difference if not i am taking it back, unless someone recommends something else.

Yea even a complete uninstall and hwclean for hauppauge and reinstall of wintv arcsoft and the blaster did not seem to phase it at all.

intially it got channel 282 on 720, but then after the one fluke, every time after it reports 0x0, but although it reports 0x0 i am still able to watch tv on the pc using live tv.

here is a log after I uninstalled the colossus device, removed drivers and reinstalled.

first channel after this gets 720p then any other channel I choose for livetv doesn't..... would the verdict be a bad device? the channels report the content as HD on the STB.

another thing that i noticed is that according to shaw the hd channels have mixed sd and hd content... but even if a movie playing claims to be HD it still reports as 0x0 instead of the 720.... so do you think it just be an STB on drugs?

To be honest, I wouldn't worry too much about it saying 0x0. That in itself doesn't identify any problem. It'll just cause it to use the <ModeSD> bitrate, rather than <Mode720p> or <Mode1080i>.

The real problem is why the device is not delivering any data. Its not clear to us why that might be though. You'll typically get no data from a Colossus if there is no video signal, or you've configured it for SPDIF audio and there is no SPDIF audio.

Sub, it is getting data, i am able to view live tv, and i am able to record tv. sometimes i get no data, thats the odd day and time but i removed hdmi from the picture in case that causes a problem. if 0x0 does not mean i have a hardware problem then that saves me a lot of grief. i tested media portal as well and it does mention that the input is 720p.... so i know now that there is no issue with colossus at least with bitrates... weird ever so weird.

so i left modesd as whatever bitrate is there by default and a recording on my hd channels that came out looked horrible, so now i am using modesd with the 720p bitrate.... would that fix the horrible video quality or is that something else?

Yeah, just increase the bitrate in the <ModeSD> setting.

thanks so much, i will report back about the no data stuff later, i am hoping that removing the hdmi link to my tv from the STB will have fixed that problem. (maybe the STB detects hdmi and disables component... who knows.)
