The patch he posted attempts to fix the issue when the xmltv file is read. If you didn't do the empty/update EPG, then it's reading from the database and not the xmltv file. Meaning that the attempted fix never got performed.

Correct. It should fix the issue for future airings of the show, but it'll only come into play after your EPG has been reloaded.
