Hi.

I've got NPVR running on an XP 32 machine. I will be rebuilding the machine (same hardware) as a W7 Pro 64. I would like NPVR to be setup and operate exactly how it is on the XP machine. Which files should I backup on the XP machine and replace on the new machine once I've installed NPVR so that my configuration is quicker/easier? I am especially interested in Devices, Channels, EPG settings and Recording paths.

Thanks.

NextPVR stores everything, absolutely everything, in npvr.db3 and config.xml. I suggest an Export Recordings last thing before you shutdown for the rebuild ... http://www.nextpvr.com/nwiki/pmwiki.php?....Recording

Thanks Graham. I don't really care about the past recordings (in effect, there aren't any), but I do care about future scheduled recordings. Would those 2 files handle that or do I still need to export recordings?

Also, if you have any plugins, copy the folder and sub-folders for each plugin, then copy back on the new install. Same for keymappings.xml if you made any changes to that.

If you are not running 3.2.9 on the XP machine, make sure you have a copy of the installer for the NPVR version you are running. Use that on the new Win 7 machine so that your database and config file and NPVR have matching versions. If you don't have the installer, then upgrade to 3.2.9 before saving the config and database files, and anything else.

And then there are decoders. You'll need to move your decoders to the new build, and probably will have to reselect them in the Settings/Decoders tab. On the other hand, with Win 7 you will get a very good video decoder, the MS DTV-DVD decoder. I suggest starting with that. Also, use the EVR renderer for video. You might need an audio decoder, I suggest AC3 Filter. Works trouble-free for AC3 and MP1 or whatever analog TV uses.

Thanks mike for those additional tips. Most likely I would have used different versions.

There are database and config file changes for each new version. I doubt NPVR would be happy with differing versions. Then again, it would not surprise me if sub had built some intelligence into it to deal with this. Better safe than sorry, however.
