after a weekend of setting up NPVR i entered some recordings to see if its all working. when i tried to export them, the recurring-backup.xml file looked correct but the recording-backup.xml file was basically empty. If i look at the tv grid, the one-off recordings are all in there and they seem to be recording correctly, they just arent being exported to that file for backup.

Any ideas? I'm not sure which files to upload to you but i included a zip with recording-backup.xml, recurring-backup.xml and npvr.db3

thanks,
jh

recording-backup.xml is only recordings that have completed, not pending one-off recordings. The idea behind this file is so that users can reimport the list of (sometimes 100's of) recordings if they need to.

There is nothing provided for one-off pending recordings, since they're used less, and reimporting them are of less long-term value. i.e., they're typically only good for a few days in the future, unlike recurring recording rules which can still be useful after months/year (and are hard to recreate if the show isn't airing).

well is there some way to figure out what all these upcoming scheduled recordings are...short of hunting around the grid for red boxes? if not, would you consider adding such a facility to future releases?

thanks,

The Recordings Menu has a Pending Screen that shows all up-coming Recordings - If you just want to see them, rather than re import them to a new install. Which is what the Export Recordings is meant for.
It's not an overly complicated system - it's more - overly simple operatives  Huh

yeah thanks. i discovered that view shortly after my post. its been a little challenging to get this all installed, working correctly and learn my way around, but im getting there. Id still find exporting these useful...if for nothing other than peace of mind. and having the program to do it a better option that having to scribble it down by hand.

another bit of desiderata would be some sort of text box for use in the search interface. maybe there is one but i havent yet found it. so far ive just been scrolling down these alphabetical lists to find the things i want. that works, and is nice for browsing the possibilities, but why not a text box where you can type a prefix for those cases when you know exactly what you want and can go right to it? maybe this is possible too and i just havent found it yet.

apologies if im i little slow to grok how this all works. many thanks to the developers who built the system. im already happy to be making the switch from WMC

you can do all sorts of searches via the web interface: http://www.nextpvr.com/nwiki/pmwiki.php?n=Manual.NEWA

and then there's the SearchLite plugin which leverages the web interface search engine: http://www.nextpvr.com/nwiki/pmwiki.php?...SearchLite

There is a standalone .exe file in the program directory called nscripthelper and it can be used to list pending recordings with the -pending command.
I use this as part of my epg, backup, cleanup early morning routine to email me (blatt) device status (Ms devcon.exe) and pending recordings.
