I'm having a skipping problem. I just recently bought a Hauppage WinTV 250 card, and it worked great with the wintv2000 program that comes bundled with the card. However, i wanted tivo-like functions, so I downloaded gb-pvr. The recording works great, but live TV "skips" (sound still works, but image freezes every few seconds). When I record a show however, the skips are not present, and the show plays fine. I have a very capable machine, so I dont think it is a lack of hardware. Is there anyway to fix this?

Radeon x800xt

Try changing MPEG2 decoder. It might help. You could also try disabling Live Preview mode.

You could try what I did and change the Deinterlacing option in the Misc tab from None to Deinterlace Filter. I found that if you do that, it doesn't skip and you can still use Live Preview. Unfortunately, it's not good if you have an interlaced display (i.e. a normal TV) but it's better than nothing.

rtiangha, thanks for the tip! I had the same issue with my 250 and live preview mode. I tried all kinds of decoders settings but with no luck. However, using the deinterlacing filter works like a charm. Thanks for the great tip!

Not sure why that would improve things - you'd think it would slow it down - but it gets rid of the skipping.

Yeah, I have no idea why it would solve the problem. I mean, LiveTV via Analog cable is interlaced, right? You'd think you'd be able to pass that signal through to your TV without having to do anything. Having to run a deinterlace filter to make it work properly just doesn't make sense (and it doesn't look as good on an interlaced display). My guess at this point is that it's either a software bug or a driver problem.

Hmm, thats really weird, mine was already on the deinterlacing filter. Just to check, I switched it to "none", and it works perfectly. Thanks anyways guys!

Thats the difficult thing about this sort of project. There is a million different combinations of hardware, drivers and software, and its just impossible to make it behave consistently for everyone. Video is so taxing on the systems, that these small differences between setups are usually quite evident.

Nuts, and I thought it was a PVR-250 problem since I've noticed it was mainly 250 owners that were experiencing the problem. Oh, well. Guess the solution to my problem is to get a non-interlaced display. HDTV, here I come! :p
