Hello,

I installed the latest version which has

"added HDHomeRun tuner locking, to stop other applications from being able to steal tuners"

how do I disable this? I do have multiple apps that use the same tuners (obviously not at the same time). They worked fine prior.

Thanks

Madas

It only locks the specific tuner while it is being used by NextPVR for a recording. And then unlocks it when it is finished.

The only problem with this that I have encountered is that if for some reason the recording service dies (in my case Windows crashed, but I'm guessing the same problem would happen if you killed the recording service) during a recording, then the tuner doesn't get unlocked. And when NextPVR restarts, it picks a new random lock code to use, so it can't get back to that same tuner. And in my case when I discovered the problem, the recording log had rolled over, so I couldn't determine the random lock code that it had used before to manually unlock it. :-( So, I ended up having to reboot the HDHR to get the tuner unlocked.

Go to the HDHR's web status page, select Tuner Status, and then select Tuner 0, etc. The look at the Resource Lock field at the bottom of the screen and see if it has an IP address (indicating that it has been locked by a process at that IP address).

This version patch should help. Instead of using a random number, it uses a lock key derived from the capture source ID, which will be the same if the recording service gets restarted for any reason (while the device is in use).

As Brett said, it only locks the individual tuner it's using, and only for the duration of the recording.

Very cool. Thanks, sub! It's only happened to me once, but it was a little bit of a pain. :-)

From the api it could be firewall related

Code:
The HDHomeRun will self expire the resource lock if not streaming and no commands are received
in a 30s period. If the host application crashes without releasing the resource lock this timeout will
allow the tuner to be used again. The exception - if the tuner is streaming video and the host has
a firewall that prevents ICMP port unreachable messages the tuner will not be informed that the
video is no longer being accepted by the host. Streaming will continue and the tuner will maintain
the lock

Interesting... In my case with the system crash, the HDHR was indeed streaming (24+ hours later). I'll have to check and see if Windows Firewall would be blocking ICMP port unreachable messages on the local LAN.

Your right - its only locking when its supposed to. After rebooting a couple more times it just randomly started working again.
