I have a weird issue. When I playback a recording, it immediately skips to the end after a few seconds of black screen with no audio, and says it was watched to completion. However, if I press watch and then stop it after a second, I can select resume from the menu and it plays fine. I am using the main concept decoder from my Hauppauge tuner for mpeg2 and MS for h264. I have installed and tried ffdshow and lav, but they do the same. I don't have any other decoders available. The videos play fine in VLC. Any ideas?

try immediately skipping forward as soon as playback begins and see if that also fixes it.

I believe 3.4 introduced a bug that causes the beginning of some (many?) recordings to be unplayable somehow. I run into them all the time, but have not uploaded a sample for sub to investigate the issue (when I run into the problem in the easy-chair I'm not in the mood to get up and go deal with it, and when I'm at the computer like now I can't remember which recording had the problem and I don't feel like trying a bunch until I find one). Others have reported the same issue, but no one else has uploaded a sample either.

Perhaps you will be our savior?

Cut the first 100mb of a problem file, upload it somewhere and provide a link for sub.

That explaing why I think I'm seeing so many recordings gone bad. I'll try your method next time instead of just shrugging my shoulders and delete the ecording. Maybe I have the same issue.

Thanks for the suggestion johnsonx42. That works as well, I can immediately skip forward and then back to start. There is obviously something wrong with the start of the file. It's happening with all my recordings. I'll cut a chunk tomorrow and see where I can upload to.

So has there been any further work/info on this problem? I am running Windows 7 and I had this problem when I installed 3.4.8 and "solved" it by going back to 3.3.8. Everything was working fine except that I have now found out that 3.3.8 does not have the current Schedules Direct API. Anyway, it is back to 3.4.8 and this problem of watching recordings. The skip forward method works (as a work-around I programmed another key on my remote to play and then skip via EventGhost) but it would sure be nice if this did not happen. It sounds like some get this to happen only intermittently, it happens to me with every recording. Thanks.

As per post #2, the best way to get this fixed is to provide Sub with a sample of video that demonstrates the problem so he can reproduce it and them work on a fix.

I think that there is a video available. See the link to a recording that is in the last post.
