Hi all,

Seen a few other similar threads but nothing seems to solve these problems for me.

I was using Kodi with NPVR as a back end but it crashed so often that a few weeks ago I decided to switch to the NPVR front end as it seemed more stable and NPVR has always been super reliable for recording.

At that time I was running version 4.1.1 but had an issue where when trying to resume watching a recording having previously stopped part way through where the UI would just freeze.  There was no explicit application crash but I have to bring up the task manager to end the process which was listed as not responding in task manager.

A couple of weeks ago I decided to upgrade to the latest version (4.2.5) in the hope it would solve the issue but it didn't and it introduced this new playback issue - I start watching a recording and at some point the video starts racing ahead of the audio (the video appears to run in fast forward whilst the audio carries on at normal speed).  It happens seemingly at random though there is definitely a pattern based on the channel recorded - e.g. programs from ITV usually mess up within a couple of minutes of starting playback, other recordings it can take much longer or not happen at all). It doesn't seem to affect Live TV unless timeshifting.

I've installed and switched to the latest LAV decoders (was using Microsoft DTV-DVD, I'm on Windows 8 and used to use Media Center) but still get the issue.  Also tried both with the "use legacy NPVR TS reader" option but so far only succeeded in breaking Live TV playback altogether or simply getting audio/video out of sync immediately (not the "fast forward video" thing, just mismatched audio/video playback).

The recorded ts files playback fine in Kodi and VLC.

Finally I've tried downgrading through all versions back to 4.1.1 and the issue remains even when running 4.1.1 which is frustrating as I no longer have a working/reliable TV setup.

I've attached the logs and will gladly try some different setting combinations as advised.

Thanks

The missed one of the steps required to upload files. I am really confused by your comment that Kodi crashes so often compared with recorded files play back fine in Kodi.

Kodi crashing on the same PC as NextPVR would likely be poor quality files or using timeshift for live tv. I'd start by making sure you have a good signal or reliable IPTV provider.

If you want to supply a sample recording where you can see the problems, I'll see if I can reproduce it with the same file.

Sorry, hopefully got the attachment right this time.

To explain the Kodi behaviour - when Kodi is working it plays back these recordings just fine.  The application crashes in Kodi usually happen at start up, before I get to do anything in the UI.  Once it starts doing that a reboot is required to sort it out.

I don't believe I have recording quality/signal issues particularly as the playback issue in NPVR is recent yet it now affects recordings from months ago that it could playback fine before I upgraded the version and started changing things...

Sub,
The jump to fast forward with audio at normal speed sounds like the problem in V4 I requested you to look at a few months back but you were rather busy with V5 beta launch and I don't think got chance to look at it (sample .ts file supplied at that time). It's still a occasional issue for me in V4 and it's consistent (i.e. always happens at the same point in an affected recorded file.)

Sorry it took so long, actually not seen the problem for a few days, but have today.  I've shared below both a video clip taken on my phone of what I see when the problem occurs and the offending 2 minute section of the recorded TS file (problem occurred at around 0:45 in this clip, but 11 minutes into the full recording).   NOTE: I used a file splitter to get this TS section rather than a video editor so nothing is modified (let me know if you need the file from the very beginning to this point instead).

I too have this problem, with it either not starting, or freezing if you try and skip forward too much too quickly.

I'll see if i can find you a file to test.

same lav decoders.

With Kodi, its more stable playing the same files, does not crash etc.

Its probably due to the rather ratty nature of my ariel now they have changed all the frequencies.

I also have the same problem, only for me it happens with live IPTV. If I stop and restart the stream its fine. I just use a different program for live IPTV nd use NextPVR for recording only. Hope a solution is posted will be watching :-)

Are you actually watching it in NextPVR, or some other player?

If you're watching it in NextPVR, what decoders are you using?

NextPVR direct. Windows 10. Alienware PC.
LAV decoders.
This behavior does not occur on Kodi, iVue, MyIPTV, etc.
Only happens on NextPVR. it seems to be random.
Because we know it can happen on NextPVR we only use NextPVR for recording (it almost never happens on a recording).

What happens - i'll be watching a live stream and suddenly it will launch into fast forward and the audio will be off. If I want to watch the channel I can just stop the stream and restart it again. At that point its normal until the problem reoccurs.

Is there a chance this has to to with timeshift? Just throwing an idea out there I have no idea lol
