Getting a full EPG and managing around this is a real challenge for me in NPVR. Something my wife really just does not understand and I was looking to resolve it a bit.

I decided as the Freesat(UK) and DVB options were now pretty mature I would move away from my epgCollector based XML file and just use these. What I have found though is they are not massively consistent.

DVB channels mapped perfectly the first time I did this and I thought I had them cracked at least, however gradually they have dropped off and I now have mostly "no show details" something that really gets my wife's goat ;-) I tried doing a rescan but no dice. Feels like the scan is not being initiated. I will say currently I am still running the EPGCollector bat as part of the updateepg.bat. I have something in one of those bats (can't remember which) that reboots the box following the epgupdate as this keeps it working better. Could this be causing some form of challenge.

As for freesat(UK) again many no show details, though this time I suspect that they don't actually exist in the epg data. Channels like Phoenix scan in the Freesat only scan but don't necessarily have lined up epg I suspect. Is there anyway to find out what channels should have epg but don't?

Really what I'd like is to be able to have an idiot mode that scans DVB-T and Freesat and ensures a fully populated EPG with one version of each channel. It would be great if that would regularly automatically upgrade when channels change.

Any help that you can offer would be good.

Trevor

BTW is the bulk map still broken. If I map with that it just sets every channel to none and I get a totaly blank epg. The only way I can change the epg source is to go down every channel in the list double click and change the source. For 200 channels that gets tedious.... ;-)

Couple of things to check / note:

Make sure you don't have update epg during live TV ticked in settings.

Make sure that your batch file - or windows unattended sleep - isn't putting the computer to sleep before epg update has completed. It takes 1 minute per mux to update DVB-T, plus the time for Freesat to update which, together, is more than the 6 minutes Windows 7 and above allow before putting the computer back to sleep.
Somewhere on the forum is a reg file that I posted to add Unattended sleep to Power Settings.

Don't set the epg update time to 2-3am as the DVB-T listings seem to be often incomplete around this time. I have mine set to 05:15 and with 15 minutes unattended sleep get a prity reliable epg. (DVB-T only)

All of the above give a diminishing program guide
Some one else may have Freesat experience.

Oh - Pheonix TV is a free to air on Sky Channel so can be received, but is not on the Freesat epg, so you will need to find another source for the program guide for that channel.
It's not an overly complicated system - it's more - overly simple operatives  Huh

For DVB-T (and probably for satellite), NextPVR runs at the scheduled time to do the EPG scan and then ends. This will give a log file that contains nothing except the messages from the scan (more or less). The log contains messages to show the quantity of programmes retreived for each channel ... this may give you a clue where stuff is going missing.

config.xml has ... <EPGScanSeconds>60</EPGScanSeconds> ... and this is the time spent listening for EPG on each mux ... you can try increasing it from the default of 60 (though 60 works for almost everyone and should work for you).

Thanks LaoPan and Graham,

So I have just played with the setup

Had update EPG while viewing on .... now off
Postupdateepg.bat altered to give a 20min delay on the reboot. This should hopefully give it time
The epg update was set at 2am now set at 5am.

I will give that a shot and see how it goes :-)

I guess I will just have to continue to use the EPGCollector stuff for the satellite channels. where there is no match in Freesat.

Either of you know about the Bulk update option and why that does not work for me? Am I missing a patch or something? I've currently running the most up to date version.
