USB 2.0 Hard Drive + GBPVR

I recently setup my dedicated HTPC with a Hauppage USB PVR2 and an external USB 2.0 80 Gig drive. I've noticed that the quality of my recordings that are saved onto the USB drive are of poorer quality than those saved directly to the internal drive. I have a hard time believing that I couldn't use such a setup since USB 2.0 has more than adequate bandwidth.

Is anyone else using a similar setup? What are your results?

And if anyone is wondering, my HTPC only supports one internal drive which is why I'm using the external drive setup.

I have 4 external USB drives that I store recordings too and they all look fine to me. I do not record directly to these drives. Rather, I record to the internal driave and later archive the files to the external drives. I do not know if it would make a difference if I were to record directly to the external drive.

I do not know if it is relevant in your case - but when I earlier used Pinnacle Studio for editing video I had to set some parameter in Windows for the harddisk so that it would transfer data fast enough - after setting the parameter the disk worked faster.
