Apparently NextPVR doesn't care if they haven't been introduced, so long as it's the right type. I guess it asks window$ for a device and accepts whatever is provided regardless of whether it has seen it before.

NextPVR will only use a device you've setup channels for...but...it only knows these devices as "HDPVR2 #1", "HDPVR2 #2", "HDPVR2 #3" etc. It'll only use a different device if you introduce a new one that changes the numbering Windows is using for each. ie, if you insert a 4th device, and Windows reports it as a "HDPVR2 #2", then you can expect NextPVR will try to use it if you've got channels configured on "HDPVR2 #2".
