Here's my situation:

My show runs in the same time slot and channel 7 days a week.

What is the best way to record this show only on Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday? Do I need to schedule 4 weekly recordings, one for each day or is there a better way?

I realize that there is <Days>...</Days> keyword but what's the best way to change the keywords contents? Can a Rule be invoked? SQL? XML edit?

Thanks...

I think NEWA web server and Kodi - Jarvis (need the next version) will allow recording specific days.

Yep, NEWA should be able to do this. The underlying recording engine supports a selection of days, but I didn't want to complicate the main UI with this.

Thank you, sub, and thank you mvallevand.

I explored NEWA for the first time and was very impressed! Tried watching TV, no problem, play back a video, easy, and schedule a recurring program like I proposed...problem. See attached. NextPVR->Recordings->Recurring Recordings shows the correct information and shows for the selected days were shown in ->Pending Recordings. Good!

There are, however, two shortcomings to what I saw in NEWA with regard to my question:

1) Day selection is available only for programs shown in the TV Guide. Day selection is not available while setting up a manual recording. Is this intentional?

2) The "Extend End Time Minutes" option is most welcome but is not yet implemented? When I checked ->Recurring Recordings and ->Scheduled Recordings, neither entry showed an end time accounting for the 60 minutes I asked for.

While NEWA certainly extends the reach of access to digital TV, I, personally, have little use for such access and would prefer to run full NextPVR functionality from the NextPVR application and not be pulled out of it, do a browser-based operation and the have to return to the local applicaton. A few more lines offering day selection and extending the end time would, IMHO, add little complication to the an otherwise excellent GUI.

Perhaps I should make suggestions in the Wishlist section?

Thanks for the lesson.

(PS - How do I get that nice message header included in my posts?) EDIT: Duh...It's automatic...sorry.

UJB would need to answer any questions about NEWA for you. I don't actively use it myself, so I'm not sure of the answers.

Yep, I understand. Maybe in some future release. Most people don't really need this type of control over the days, so I'm not that keen of complicating the UI with controls for selecting the days. Users can already easily select recordings for a specific day, or week days or weekends, which covers most peoples needs. You can always just create multiple recordings if you need something recording on multiple days.

Fair enough, sub, and thanks for the help.

I'll keep an eye peeled for future fee-churs.

I'd like to resurrect my question about specifying on which days of the week a recording should occur. The initial reply suggested NEWA and also suggested that "Users can easily select recordings for a specific day..." Is this done with an Advanced Rule?

How would a rule be coded for specifying a recording on only Monday and Tuesday? There is no database column titled day-of-week.

Thanks...

No, it's done using the special daymask on the recording. From memory, NEWA classic shows it as a set of check boxes for each day, and the Modern NEWA shows it as a droplist where you can select multiple days.

In the database, the RECURRING_RECORDING table has a column match_rules, which contains the various rules that make up a recurring recording. One of these rules is <Days>, which contains the daymask.
