Hello,

I recently installed NextPVR on my server hoping to use it as a replacement for WMC in the future. I went to select decoders in the settings menu but none are showing up. I have Cyberlink PowerDVD 15 installed on the machine, should the decoders that come with it be showing up in the settings--> Decoders menu? The machine it's running on is running Windows Server 2012 R2 if that makes a difference. I would really appreciate any advice you can offer.

Thanks

NextPVR doesn't install any decoder, it just askes Windows or the list of decoders that are already installed.

I don't really know anything about Cyberlink PowerDVD 15, but seem to remember someone saying recent versions of their software don't register their decoders, so they're not visible to other applications on the system, which likely explains why you're not seeing them.

What he said. The most recent version of the Cyberlink decoders that that can be used in not-Cyberlink apps is 13 (I think). My advice regarding decoders is to use SAF. This will install a bunch of decoders that work anywhere (plus some utility software). Send Hoborg a forum private message and ask for the "unlocked" version. This should install C/link decoders that work but I can't speak to potential conflicts with existing C/link decoders.

Thanks for the advice, I reached out to Hoborg, installed the unlocked version. However I am still having the same problem. I can't get any picture or sound. I am using a Centon Infinitv ETH hooked up to Verizon Fios. I previously had it working on WMC no problem. Anything else you would recommend that could be the problem?

If you do a recording, do you end with a file created in your recording directory?

If you're using a network Ceton device, you might want to see if turning off the filewall temporarily makes any difference.

Hi Sub,

So I have been playing around with it a bunch and I can't seem to get it fine tuned. The firewall is fine, as of now I have be able to get video on a few channels but I guess my real question is, is there a set of settings that would be considered standard for decoders?

Right now I have it set to the Video Renderer- VMR7, MPEG 2 - Cyberlink Video/SP Decoder, and all audio is set to LAV it has been working sporadically. For instance I had it working for a little bit but walked away to do somethings, and when I came back I can't get it to tune to a channel, with no settings having been changed.

the only renderer you should be using is EVR, unless you have special cause to use a different one.

My advice would be to run the "unlocked" version of SAF and then change nothing to do with decoders. In days gone by, I have wasted great tracts of time trying to "fine tune" my decoder setup without improving the operation of NextPVR. I agree that there is usually no reason to use any video renderer other than EVR.

When the tuning problem next occurs ... please zip and attach logs ... http://forums.nextpvr.com/showthread.php...post480931

PS ... I am now expecting a wave of posts from folk that achieved great thing by fiddling with decoders Wink

No, because NextPVR doesn't ship with decoder, everything is using all sorts of different decoders. A lot of people are using the SAF decoders though (I've personally never used then).

When it comes to video renderer, on Vista and above stick to EVR unless you've got a reason to try the others.
